Success is the subject of Richard St. John’s YouTube video, Secrets of Success in 8 Words, 3 Minutes. It is about identifying some of the factors that people who want to thrive in life must grasp. As an analyst, the video’s creator was required to interview 500 people who are deemed successful over a seven-year period in order to properly explain what it takes to achieve success (St John, 2007). The information presented argues that one has to be passionate about their occupation, serve, work hard, push through every negativity, be good in what they do, have ideas to sell, be persistent, and lastly, remain focused (St John, 2007).

The topic could be applied to Part 6 of the textbook through the concept of planning. As this section discusses inventory in length, the two are related to how specific requirements are needed in order to achieve a final outcome (St John, 2007). Therefore, the topic of success discusses the acquisition of the eight elements, utilizing, and managing them to succeed. The same is evident in how the process of inventory works. The latter entails gaining raw materials and having them as work in progress before finally having the desired finished product (Leseure, 2010). As such, the two relate to how all steps can be planned effectively.

What surprised me most from the video is how different elements are interrelated in order for one to achieve success. Oftentimes, people take into consideration only one of the aforementioned, but, as St. John (2007) emphasizes, it takes a combination of these aspects to be a successful person. For instance, one cannot rely on passion alone to rise to eminence. They have to be good at what they do, push through the hardships, and remain focused at all times.
