The Sacrifices for Stability

The greatest level of virtue a person can achieve, stability is what leads to happiness. A stable society with contented residents coexists devoid of instances of struggle and pain, illness and suffering. This stability was attained at the cost of a number of factors. Emotions, individuality, freedom, love, family, faith, art, and intellectual fervor in the fields of science, philosophy, and the arts are among the sacrifices made by the stable community. Mustapha Mond, the world manager, claims that the main sources of instability are religion, art, history, and science. (Huxley, 34). It takes a lot of work to guarantee a good environment in order to build a stable community. Through critical thinking, various adjustments are made on the four crucial setbacks to achieve stability in the world state.

Overcoming Religion

Religion was overcome through the provision of a better alternative “opiate.” This is Christianity without tears. This meant that the need for consolation was eliminated. The image of God is also taken over by the face of the society, a far stronger force that requires the belief of the people to maintain stability. Art and history play a substantial role in a stable society. The adjustments in this area included habituation, propaganda and emotional engineering. “...that is the secret of happiness and virtue-liking what you’ve got to do. All conditioning aims at that: making people like their unescapable social destiny,” explained Mr. Foster (Huxley 210).

The Role of Science

It is important that the people are convinced that what they are receiving is of the most importance. The Brave New World accords all the comfort, in the form of steady work, entertainment, leisure and recreation, prolonged youth and desired company of friends. Science is deployed in a bid to give rise to utopia. Social stability is entirely dependent on the stability of an individual. Science and technological intervention are therefore incorporated to make appropriate adjustments in the makeup of a human being to achieve a stable individual. Stability is crafted biologically, physiologically and chemically.

The Price of Stability

In conclusion, through art, history, science, and religion, a stable society can be achieved at the expense of sensitive and personal characteristics. This is the only way to create and maintain stability in the World State.
