Working remotely - a type of work arrangement

Working remotely is a type of work arrangement in which an employee is allowed to perform his formal responsibilities outside of the workplace. Telephones and the internet are the main means of communication between workers and their corporate headquarters.

This form of contact is used by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and General Service Administration (GSA) in the US, which give their employees the option of reporting legislative and policy issues online or over mobile devices.

Working remotely not only increases output and flexibility but also lowers costs. This essay aims at identifying the reasons why business owners and workers should incorporate the idea of working remotely into their business world. Below are some of the reasons.

Convenient

It enables the worker to keep up with his or her work tasks regardless of the barriers that may be present. Most workers who work remotely do it from the comfort of their homes. It eliminates hindrances such as being caught up in the traffic jam or road construction, or their duties being affected by barriers like snow and storms.

Increases Employee Morale

Research indicates that employees who telecommunicate are happier than those working from their offices. Over the years, office boredom has emerged as one of the primary reasons for job dissatisfaction among personnel (Hartig, Kylin, & Johansson, 2007). Employees working remotely are often satisfied with their work

Reduces Expenses

Working remotely does not only assist the business to cut its expenditures, but it also reduces the expenses incurred by the employee (Nicklin, Cerasoli, & Dydyn, 2016). For instance, the worker saves costs spent on commuting and buying food from the restaurant. It also reduces the probability of employee incurring cost on medical service because of accidents or other uncertainties.

Decreases Employee Turn-Over Rates

It is evident that happy and satisfied employees are far less likely to seek employment elsewhere. The freedom to work away from the office is something most staffs long for; therefore, if they get an opportunity to do so, they always maintain their jobs (Nicklin, Cerasoli, & Dydyn, 2016).

Conclusion

Working remotely provides solutions that are significant for the productivity of the worker as well as the success of the business. This is because it enables the firm to cut its expenses and channel the money into other productive purposes. Research shows that the process is affordable as it is free from barriers such as heavy rains, snow and other uncertainties.
