Working at Webtak cloth line

Working at Webtak cloth line has been difficult for me because most staff are extremely busy and seldom have enough time to interact with one another. The only persons with whom we engage and appear to be quite familiar are our supervisors, of which there are many, as the company likewise has many employees. In this case, I was assigned to work with a person from a different department of production within our organization, whom I evidently know very little about. Brad Bellick was the name of the employee. We were assigned to work together as partners for the next three months. Bellick and I were supposed to work on relocation and arrangement of some fashion designs from the main warehouse to some sub-warehouses. I felt a bit challenged since I had no idea of copying up with my new colleague, since I have never even heard of him before. So, I was not sure of his handling skills and pace of work. I can recall the incidence when the two of us were called at the head office. All of us seemed surprised at the announcement and then at a glance we stared at each other awkwardly. The questions that kept ringing on my head were, is my partner having strange quirks while at work and will we be able to get along, will I really be serious as he is or I might let him down.

Getting to Know My New Colleague

That fact that I wasn’t sure with how my partner operates geared me towards enquiring from my friends in the similar fields where Bellick was before. I came to realize a little knowledge about him that made me happy, since I know understood that he was someone of my caliber and, therefore, I was able to cope with him without any difficulty. In order to get familiarized with him we began to conduct casual conversation. I came to find out that Bellick had bigger incentives of ensuring a smooth running for the activity we were about to embark on. Bellick also came to understand that I was one guy who was obsessed with punctuality and order.

The Theory of Uncertainty Reduction

This instance gives a simple illustration for the concept of uncertainty reduction as a theory of communication. The theory states that in many cases, most individuals tend to be uncertain of people they are not well familiarized with and are, therefore, motivated to ensure a communication with them to get rid of uncertainty (Knobloch, 2008). From our lesson, we can get to know, that Calabrese and Berger discovered this theory in the year 1975, after taking note that the initial interactions that occur between people were based on patterns that were predictable from the gathered information.

Conclusion

The theory of uncertainty reduction is vital for a developing relationship in gathering information, via interaction and observation. It can be used as a clue of predicting the behavior of an individual (West & Turner, 2013). Again, we can realize this theory on the basis of a number of assumptions. One major expectation in this case is that it creates discomfort as seen with my example, where at first I felt not appropriately, I was not able to work with someone I wasn’t well conversant with, same as Bellick.
