Work is a term used to describe a task or activity that requires both mental and physical effort to complete. The major goal of this essay is to do research to determine whether work is beneficial for humans. The second goal of this essay is to illustrate how the way that labor is organized affects interpersonal relationships and other forms of social interaction. Last but not least, this essay will explore Karl Marx’s concept of alienation, which may be used to better comprehend and gain insight into how people interact with the workplaces in which they work.
Our civilization has undergone significant upheaval. Most businesses encourage their staff to work harder with fewer resources. Practically, this means that employees ought to try to do less with very minimal effort, less training, less equipment and less space. Basically, this can be achieved through implementing a good organization scheme. After conducting an extensive research; it is safe to state the fact both rationalization and modernization have consequences that can either be positive or negative.
When we look at rationalization; one of its main disadvantages is the fact that it has no long – term effect. Generally, this means that rationalization does not offer a lasting solution that can be used to ascertain whether Work is good or bad for us (Castles & De Haas & Miller, 2013, p. 67). Other minor consequences include the fact that rationalization ends up affecting the health of the individuals involved. In reference to rationalization; it is important to note the fact that work is not good for us if it may lead to fatigue, anxiety, depression and fatigue due to increased workloads, time pressure (Edwards & Scullion, 1982, p. 25). It may also be attributed with employers giving demands that are unreasonable and stressful.
As a result of this conditions; employees cannot be able to work and produce results that are productive. This ends up affecting the rate and growth of the Company involved. In a lay man’s language; rationalization refers to the process of reorganizing a group so that it can be more efficient and productive (Castles & De Haas & Miller, 2013, p. 75). Most Companies end up applying the rationalization process in case there is a change in policy, a reduction or an increase in the number of people in the Company.
On the other hand; when we look at modernization, it refers to the process of a Company going through transitions so that it can fit in to the modern society. When we look at this case; it is safe to state the fact that implementing modernization in a Company may have effects that may end up being positive or negative (Edwards & Scullion, 1982, p. 40). In summary; it is safe to state the fact not all Companies can adapt and work effectively with the modernization process. Some will work out well with the new reforms and changes while others will fail tremendously.
One of the main advantages of using this strategy is the fact that it creates a sense of urgency when it comes to tending to work activities. Based on this scenario, it is safe to state the fact that the strategy creates a room where people can be able interact, share opportunities and complete on their most urgent tasks (Castles & De Haas & Miller, 2013, p. 29).The next advantage associated with modernization is the fact that it creates awareness and offers the employees involved a sense of emotional changeover in case there are any shortcomings. As a result of awareness, employees can be able to complete their tasks/obligations. When we look this scenario; It is safe to say that Work is good for Human beings.
Generally; when we look at work in reference to modernization and rationalization and the impact it has on Social interaction and Human relationship (Waters, 2001, p. 62). It is safe to state the fact that work is good for Humans in case the subjects/employees involved are not overworked. As mentioned earlier; in most cases rationalization does not have a positive impact on the life of an individual.
Basically, one can say that too much work is not fit for Humans since it leads to other negative repercussions. Humans are not machines; in case they overload themselves with a lot of work, they are likely to fall sick. A majority of the people end up having a form of anxiety, depression and fatigue (Waters, 2001, p. 56). They are also faced with significant muscular – skeletal disorders. Depression results high levels of stress that the employee cannot manage to handle. It also causes them to lose a sense of focus on work (Waters, 2001, p. 34).
Work is also good for Human beings if it is not exploitative and alienating (Edwards & Scullion, 1982, p. 45). This means that Work should allow a Human being to work at their best levels. Basically; they cannot be able to work if they are exploited since their purpose, individuality, creativity and sense of belonging will be affected greatly. It is also important to note the fact that work is not good incase the economic and human costs are high and are unlikely to be on an offset (Castles & De Haas & Miller, 2013, p. 15). Basically; Humans work so that they can live and survive, in case the economy is a one way dimension, Human beings may end up becoming economical assets or machines that are just there to build the economy.
