Women Harassment

Due to the guilt and embodied trauma that restrict the majority of women from expressing themselves, women’s harassment has increased drastically.

Women who are ashamed to report their present harassment experience greater abuse than those who are not ashamed and can communicate their emotions. Compared to women who make low incomes, those who are financially powerful can fend off possible abuse. Men frequently take advantage of women’s desperation and discrimination while they are living in extreme poverty, harassing them as a result. Most of the empowered women have better access to human rights agencies; therefore they find it easy to report and fight against abuses. Thus there are not positioned for abuse and harassment (Chapman, p. 42).

Married women are more likely to be abused than single ladies. The reason is that married women are under authority of their husband and are times abused in the name of being submissive. Married women are vulnerable to domestic and sexual assault by their partners which mostly happens in abusive relationships. Single women are less vulnerable to domestic and sexual abuses as they are independent and in control of their decisions.

Reasons Why Women get abused

Women are considered weak and inferior by the men. Hence physical abuse occurs when a woman “break a rule.” Therefore, the physical abuse of women is caused by the men desire for unquestioned obedience and their lack of compassion. Women are also abused in the bid of their spouses to exercise power and control over their lives due to historically unequal power relations between men and women (Benokraitis, p. 74). At times they are harassed for no reason. Some cultures, religion, and peers encourage male violence which makes women vulnerable to the abuses. Sexual assault and rape of women by men is an abuse that is mainly performed by men who find difficulty in obtaining partners. Sex is a natural desire and men seek satisfaction through mating with their spouses. Thus those who have no partners tend to rape women who they come across in a favorable circumstance. Women in marriage are also abused as a result of male extreme sexual jealousy which mainly arises as a result of trying to prove their paternity capabilities (Benokraitis, p. 69). Women are also abused because of the mental disorder of their spouses who are engaged in alcohol intake and abuse of substances, as some men become violent to their wives when they are drunk.

Contribution of Men and Women in Abuse of Female Gender

Both men and women are to be blamed for the abuse in marriages as women are main victims of abuse. In most cases, it is the husband problem as opposed to the wife, due to the masculinity factor. At times women provoke their husband by failing to be submissive and trying to exhibit their power, and in return, the husband causes violence due to misplaced anger and frustration (Chapman, p. 42). Women are also to blame for the abuse they encounter as they tolerate the victimization by failing to speak up, thereby giving space for continued harassment. Husbands are also to be blamed in some instances when they choose to solve domestic issues through violence by administering cruel and severe punishments to the wives as argued out by Benokraitis, (p. 72). At times husbands abuse their wives in a bid to exercise power over their lives and to control their decisions.
