An abortion is the removal of a fetus before its development. (Ozbeklik, 2014). Because it has religious roots, the abortion issue has always been divisive. Considering that life starts at conception, ending a pregnancy at any stage is murder. (Pruss, 2011). According to pro-life activists, it is morally wrong to terminate an infant’s life because the genetic mechanism that occurs during conception and death are identical. Additionally, since abortion has terrible consequences for the victim and their close family, it ought to be made illegal. The consequences could be emotional, psychological, or even financial. The adverse effects of abortion far outreach the societal benefits, and it is hence a vice that should be eliminated in the world.
Psychological Effects
There is a certain level of connection that happens during conception. Norris, Bessett, Steinberg, Kavanaugh, De Zordo and Becker (2011) contend that although a prospective mother may be oblivious to that fact, certain body changes occur in the preparation of the coming child. The body also prepares the mother emotionally as they now begin to anticipate their new role as a mother. Therefore, terminating the pregnancy creates a void in a woman’s life which is difficult to fill (Pruss, 2011). Moreover, girls who have aborted before suffer prolonged guilt and regret. Such girls are likely to hate themselves as they often view themselves as murderers making abortion mentally tormenting.
Crude Methods
The methods used in procuring abortion are not only crude but painful to the mother and child. A person who commits such murder is deemed cold and hence has no soul left in him (Norris, et.al.,2011). In some instances, a doctor injects some concentrated saline fluid into the amniotic fluid which works by poisoning the foetus. Within the next day, the mother gives birth to a dead baby. In some instances, the foetus is crashed within the uterus, and the pieces are forced out of the womb through sanctioning which is often very painful for the mother (Pruss, 2011). If abortion is not well procured, it can lead to permanent infertility which can also affect the marital life of the girl in the future.
Every Child is Unique
Ozbeklik (2014) asserts that every child is created for a purpose and hence one should not regard any pregnancy as unwanted. It is hence morally wrong to engage in an activity that is also likely to cause emotional harm to another person (Pruss,2011). Abortion should not be an option because one can choose to deliver and give out their children to a foster home or even a childless couple. Denying a baby the chance to live is denying them a future (Ozbeklik,2014). The killed infant would have turned out to be a president, a senator or a doctor and hence people should be given an equal chance at life.
Abortion is undeniably a social evil that should be eliminated in the community. Allowing the girls to abort in this case makes them view it as normal, and they are likely to procure abortion severally. Although a woman may get rid of a child, they are haunted for life, sometimes which may be suicidal. Such ladies are likely to experience nightmares, depression and counselling may not always take away the guilt. Therefore, aborting is wrong and hence should be declared illegal in the constitution to protect the future generation.
