In-depth knowledge about what teachers should do when practicing their craft is put into context in the book When Teachers Reflect. Teachers have a variety of experiences when carrying out their roles as educators, and I will be able to discuss how this book affects my vision of my work as an educator in my reflective essay as well as why it is crucial and how I will use the lessons I have learned from it. I’ll also consider the problems educators face when attempting to implement the developmental methods discussed in this book, for instance in early childhood. This book contains narratives from about 18 teachers who expound on their journeys in this field of education and also the book is divided into seven chapters which focus on seven key themes, and that includes play, guidance, individualizing, cover everyone, new curriculum working with families and collaboration. The information in this book can be learnt and taught amongst groups or even individuals to enable those in the teaching field to gain new skills that they can apply while performing their duties as educators. (Elizabeth A Tertell, 1998)
As an educator, this book has much influenced my practice due to the fact that it has enabled me to learn new teaching techniques like involving the audience and also the book offers excellent guidance on how an educator should present and expound his/her ideas in front of an audience. The lessons in this book are far much crucial because as an educator my primary objective is to ensure that my students or audience understand what am teaching. This book has played a significant role in enabling this happen due to the significant topics it has like in chapter four whereby I learned to include everyone in discussions so that as an educator I can be able to know those who have understood and also those who did not understand. Once I have differentiated these two groups, I can now ensure those who did not understand are on the same page with those who realized earlier on. As an educator, one has to note that there are quick and slow learners whose interests should be catered for appropriately.
The book is also important because it propagates the idea of unity and collaboration while in a teaching experience. It can be easily noted that a group that is united and has the same interests can easily be able to understand all issues that are in place. The students should also not fear to ask questions and clarifications because this is the only way they can be sure they have understood the topic of discussions. The educator should be open-minded and ready to help his students understand every issue at hand.
I will apply what I have learned from this book in many ways, for example, I will ensure am an educator who makes the students love to listen to me. I will also make my students understand what am teaching them. Additionally, I will give my students continuous assessment tests to enable me to know whether they have appreciated what I have shown them or not. This will allow me even to be a better educator and also enjoy the role I play while ensuring people from different areas get the knowledge I have in this field. This is a good book, and I would recommend people to read this book because it inculcates skills that one can hardly find anywhere else.
