Working for no pay to help your neighborhood or the general public is known as community service. Students who choose to participate in community service typically do so as volunteers, so they decide to assist others out of a sense of duty. Working as a volunteer can benefit the student as well as the society. Students who participate in community service can gain a variety of advantages, including the chance to network, develop new skills, and assist others live better lives. It was a win-win scenario for me working at the Boys and Girls Club because I felt good helping others and they benefited from my assistance. What I learned from my community service is that I greatly enjoy and desire to work for organizations that work hard to maintain a level of excellence. Boys and Girls Clubs tries to perfect all features of its programming as well as procedures for the kids to reap the benefits from all programs, people, as well as all events happening at Boys and Girls Clubs. My community service experience also impacted my life in that I made new friends as well as creating perfect relationships with children and the staff. It enabled me to develop conflict solving skills among staff and also between children.
One other big way that I benefited from volunteering is thru personal development. I was able to learn about my strengths as well as weaknesses. I learned that I have exceptional skills in handling crisis or other demanding situations. I also realized that one needs to be strong to take charge of the team otherwise you find it as a struggle. This exposure to different circumstances taught me how to develop skills that I have, and how to improve on my weak areas. Through community service, I developed skills in communication, leadership, relating well with other staff, and finding answers to challenges.
I met interesting people whom I learned from. Both the children I was helping as well as my colleagues gave me new insights. No matter the group of people I was associated with, I realized that they all had information as well as ways of looking things that broadened my horizons. Volunteering allowed to be directly involved in my community and realize how vital it is for the country as well as many organizations. Community service workers are responsible for various things that are taken for granted. Without volunteers, several of the country’s older adults would not be in a position to get food. Our beaches and parks would be much dirty. Our children and youth would struggle more because of lack of help from volunteer mentors and tutors.
The Boys & Girls Club allowed me to create relationships with the children as well as work with wonderful staff. It offered so many chances for growth. You not only grow a one-on-one relationship with these children but can still operate behind the scenes. You can communicate with the family members and be involved with proceedings. I would encourage other students to volunteer at Boys and Girls Clubs because they will learn a lot and be able to appreciate their communities.
