The best writing does not expose the facts of life, but rather criticizes a multitude of concepts and ideas in order to reconcile the material with the producer’s experience. Proses can emerge from creative creation or invention when lying in the corners of fiction. Most of the literary works created by imagination are far from factual and include works such as novels, tales, films, and plays. The directing juggles of the Disney version of Pocahontas came during the production of John Smith’s novel. The evidence behind this lies in the divisive sense of originality that is eminent in John’s version relative to Disney’s version. This essay provides the comparison of the literary aspects of Disney’s and John Smith’s version of Pocahontas.

Setting

Both pieces of work have a similar setting whereby they incorporate Jamestown, Virginia as the location where the movie takes place. In the piece, John is depicted as an adventurous and active soldier who narrowly rubbed with execution, but Pocahontas came to his rescue. It was after the first colonists had arrived in Jamestown in the search for gold.

The meeting place of Pocahontas and John Smith was in the forest after which they fell in love. Contrary to that, John Smith’s piece depicts that John Smith was minutes near execution, but Powhatan adopted him as a son after his rescue from the pangs of death. As a ’Nantaquoud’, John Smith became good friends with Pocahontas, which later culminated to love affairs.

Physical Appearances

The Disney’s film relays John Smith as a clean-shaven soldier armed with war weapons. The tight pants that he wore matched his tall height giving the impression of activeness in the war arenas. However, Smith’s writing portrays John Smith as a full beard man who was shot while wearing inflated pants along with his weaponry armor.

In Disney’s film, the portrayal of Pocahontas was whereby she wore a leather mini-dress strapped on one of the sides. With a tattoo on her shoulder, she gimped with an athletic body which was admirably beautiful. However, according to John Smith’s writing, the girl, seeming at her early teenage stayed naked while wearing fur to keep warm. At some instants, her depiction was while wearing a mantle with feathers coated around it. The mantle wore decorations of pictures of animals revealing the artistic nature of the context.

The outright contradiction was eminent in the portrayal of Ratcliffe in both contexts whereby in Disney Film, he was a huge and stylistic man whose dressings called to the attention of everybody. Boastingly, he walked in the accompaniment of his dog which he had branded the name Percy probably revealing the courage to guard the highest man in the colony. As mentioned, Ratcliffe was the governor of the entire colony who in particular guarded the voyage in his capacity. However, in accordance with the John Smith’s writing, Ratcliffe engaged in dressing in the traditional clothing, obviously in comparison to the time and place. He did not walk in the accompaniment of a dog probably because his position as the president of Jamestown did not demand the pet protection (Suissa 19).

Mode of romance

Another contradiction emanates in the romantic descriptions of both pieces of work. In Disney’s Film, Pocahontas chose to be with John Smith despite the fact that she had an engagement preforms with Kocoum. It showed the elements of a love triangle whereby Pocahontas had choices to make following the call of the heart. In John Smith’s piece of work, the love triangle was between Kocoum, Pocahontas and John Ralph. Bursting out of the Cocoon, Pocahontas chose John Ralph, despite the fact that she was engaged to Kocoum.

The Disney’s film has provided the platform of the advocated controversy in the story line of John Smith and Pocahontas. Consequently, the originality and the accurate historical aspects get lost due to the contradictions depicted. John Smith’s writing has a depiction of Pocahontas as a projection with various barriers heading towards England. The barriers are eminent in the abductions and the conversion as portrayed in the literary work. By the movie, the traits of the people engaged made the movie to have a release impact in the industry. Both pieces of work identify Pocahontas as a free spirit, hooked on the love of her father as well as John Smith. The development of the story is in such a manner that the desired outcome comes out top on priority (Custalow, Linwood and Angela 23).
