I would like to see a unified American Navy force committed to selflessly serving the nation and ensuring that the seas are secure for all people. Pirates and terrorism have become a threat to America and the entire world. Unfortunately, terrorists and pirates have continued to use the seas as a convenient way of committing human trafficking, illegal drug smuggling, and kidnapping (Dwan et al., 2022. p. 54). The instances undoubtedly call for a formidably navy force to combat such activities as they pose a severe threat to humankind. Consequently, the American Navy must be strong and equipped with selfless and determined service members who are motivated to do anything within their might to restore safety on the seas. Also, the army men need to work together as a unit and focus on a common goal. Teamwork and self-motivation are the key pillars of the effective function of an organization. To achieve the aims of the Navy Department, it is crucial to inspire the officers to maintain teamwork. No one is less vital than another in the quest toward achieving safety at sea since everyone is crucial to the Navy's mission.
The army's collective objective will never be achieved if everyone does not fulfil their responsibilities. To motivate the soldiers, I intend to use a narrative of body parts. The general argument of the narrative is that just like the way many parts make the body, each soldier has a role to play in the Navy. For instance, if one body part does not perform effectively, the whole body will be affected. If the stomach fails to digest food, the legs, arms, heart, brain, and all other body organs will not have the energy to function, and the body might even collapse. Similarly, if one soldier does not do what is expected of them, the entire army mission will not be realized. It is therefore important for all the soldiers to effectively perform their responsibilities so as the army to meet its mission.
Despite the patchy implementation of the Navy's fatigue management strategy, the corps is not getting enough sleep and is unmotivated to perform. According to a GAO poll report, only below 20% of officers got the then-recommended amount of sleep, 7 hours or more, daily on their most recent assignment, while 67% got no more than 5 hours. According to the data from the Navy, sailors' performance suffers after long durations without sleep, resulting in degrees of fatigue and impairment (Shattuck, et. al, 2022, p. 703). I intend to inspire soldiers and change their perceptions to enhance the implementation of policy where the service men will feel appreciated and motivated to perform exemplary. Addressing the key areas that the soldiers need to improve will ensure the soldiers overcome fatigue and remain focused on the service delivery. Firstly, the major hot button is leaving time for the service members.
The soldier needs to use leisure and leave time appropriately to relieve work pressure. As observed, many soldiers do not use their leave time to rest but instead continue engaging in vigorous activities during leisure time. I must encourage the soldiers to use their leisure time and leave time effectively. As it can be noted, most work-related underperformance has been due to work stress and fatigue. In turn, the soldiers need to be selfless and put the country's interests at heart to achieve the goals of the American Navy. There have been instances of Navy officers collaborating with terrorists and pirates. The officers must remain principled and ensure that they do not betray the oath administered to serve the interests of the American government. The good performance of the army will be reached if army men develop self-motivation and focus on making the American people safe in the sea.
I will narrate a story about the body parts to motivate the Navy. The body consists of multiple parts rather than just one organ. For instance, the legs are an important body member, and they should never be claimed; since they are not the arms, they don't belong to the body. If the legs don't function, all body organs will be impacted in one way or the other. Similarly, if the ear were to claim that they are not important since the ears are not the eye. In reality, everybody has been put in place to perform their role for the body's general good. There are many components, but only one body as things are. Anybody part cannot claim to be independent. All body needs each other, and no one body organ is inferior and another superior. In any organization, everyone is important, just like the body parts are important, and they should all work in harmony. If one part is not functioning well, all parts share in that suffering; each member in the army has a role to play and should selflessly play the role to help achieve the goals of the navy army unit.
This assignment has enabled me to understand the value of communication in an organization. I have also learnt that it is the employees who give the companies meaning and deserve to be motivated and made to understand their roles and their implications for the organization's mission. I will ensure that I understand the goals of the organization and the impact my actions have on the mission in my future career. Understanding the value of my responsibilities will help me get motivated and propel my professionalism and productivity.
The video begins with an image of a sun followed by a shark deep in the sea. The images are used to simplify the importance of the employees to the organization; the sea is important for the survival of the shark, and the workforce is crucial to the organisation's survival. Similarly, the sun is important in the ecosystem, just like the company's workforce. The workforce needs to remain committed to the company's goals as they directly influence the company. When the employees win, the company wins, and they win, the company loses. The storyline in the middle focuses on motivating the employees to overcome the challenges they encounter in their duties to keep the company on the right track. In the organization, there are some set goals, such as maintaining sustainable growth, and it has everything to do with the employees.
The video ends with the phrase “start now and win" The phrase's purpose is to light the spark in the workforce and challenge them to play their roles to see the company achieve its ambitions. Undoubtedly, if the employees focus on self-determination and pursue their excellence, then the company will also achieve excellence; this is the benefit. Ideally, the ambitions of any organization are only achievable through a motivated and available workforce. The employees can only define the company as they maintain the relevance of the company plan. The company will not achieve anything on its own without the employees. Therefore, it is important to encourage the employees as they are the spine of any organization; a working and committed workforce will translate to a performing company.
