UK Job Growth Driven by Foreign Nationals, Statistics Show

Angela Monaghan’s article UK Job Growth Driven by Foreign Nationals, Statistics Show explains how the UK labor market has increased against expectations of a fall. According to the most recent labor market data, non-UK nationals are driving employment growth in the United Kingdom, particularly in the fourth quarter of 2016. During October and December, up to 3.4 million of the employees in the UK were non-UK nationals, with the number of British employees growing by roughly 70,000. (Monaghan).

Struggle for Salary Raise and High Employment Rate Among Women

Despite the fact that employment in Britain rose, they struggled to get a salary raise. The employment rate among the women got to all-time high of 70% since 1971, when the records began (Monaghan). October to December also marked the period where employment remained unchanged at a low of 4.8%. by January there were fewer jobless people, fewer than even what the economists had predicted.

Non-UK Nationals Driving UK Employment Growth

The author’s main point of view is that despite the Brexit failed to trigger exodus of the EU labor but instead resulted in growth of employment levels that was marked by high cost of living. An indication that is the non-UK nationals that make up the larger share of the UK employment labor force. The author’s argument is justified since the figures from the Office of National statistics point to the same. The rise in the number of the non-UK nationals working in the UK is an indication of admission of several new member states to the European Union (Office for National Statistics). Further, it is only the UK nationals labor market who were threatened by Brexit, the non-UK nationals were not affected.
