Transpersonal psychology

Transpersonal psychology should be seen as a distinct branch of psychology. Psychology has evolved over time, incorporating behavioral, psychoanalytic, and humanistic psychology. However, transpersonal psychology is not an officially recognized field. It is obvious that each department of psychology deals with a specific subject and so cannot be combined into one. For example, psychoanalytic psychology works with concerns with mental disease, whereas interpersonal psychology focuses on an individual’s supernatural being (Friedman, Harris and Glenn 5). In this situation, the psychologists do not try to impose their beliefs on the patient, but rather try to comprehend their point of view before proposing a reasonable solution. Healing sometimes results from having a different perspective of things. Therefore, appreciating interpersonal psychology will enable people to embrace their individual self and seek solutions from within themselves.

Why it has Gained Attention

Transpersonal psychology has garnered publicity over the recent past because the therapists go through the patient’s journey and hence better understands their perspectives and way of life (Friedman, et.al., 6). Human beings desire to be understood and they also prefer a simple way to of treatment instead of relying on old conventional ways (Read 13). The modern youth nowadays are self-aware, and the interpersonal psychology, therefore, works best when it comes to inner healing and changing one’s perspective of life.

Compatibility

The concept of interpersonal psychology coincides with my way of thinking because I believe that we are created to find solutions within us. It is indeed possible that sometimes, our outlook of things affects how to react to different situations (Birnbaum, Liora and Ofra ). In some cases, one may be magnifying a small challenge based on the perspective that they have had while growing up. Therefore, this concept may also apply to my dissertation research. I seek to come up with a thesis that offers solutions to a real life situation such as the conflict in marriages with the conviction that partners need to have a personal understanding to handle their issues better.
