With the Institute of Medicine (IOM) The United States has the opportunity to restructure its health-care system so that it provides excellent, affordable, and seamless services to all patients, thereby improving health outcomes (IOM et al., 2016).

As a nurse, I am well-suited to the health-care system, which necessitates altering education, fostering diversity, and reducing barriers to leadership and collaboration.

Furthermore, I believe I am in agreement with the recommendation to increase the number of nurses having bachelor degrees by 2020. This is because I am a nursing student that is determined to complete my degree while also extending my education.

The need to learn and serve the community drives the intentions to become a reputable health practitioner in our country following the IOM recommendation. With the increased number of scholars in the nursing career, I believe that I am fully matching with the IOM recommendations of rising the percentage of nurses with the nursing degree.

Further, the institute of medicine aims to double the figure of nurses with doctorate which is one of the recommendations that matches with my desires for higher education. As a nurse, there is need to continue developing competencies and skills in innovation, and leadership as well as collaborating with other health workers in delivering quality care (Caputi, 2014).

Advancing in nursing career has always been my dream hence meeting the IOM’s policies of pursuing doctorate studies will be a stepping stone in my career.

Moreover, engaging in lifelong learning is the key motivation and requirement of all nurses given that the world is dynamic and new diseases are emerging every day as well as remedies (Harris, 2015). I am fitting in the lifelong learning recommendation given that I am currently studying and ready to advance my education to higher levels.

The major role of a nurse is continuous evaluation of patient’s response to the plan of care and health status as well as implementing the physical orders.

Based on my education levels, I have various nursing options which include serving as a registered nurse, general nurse practitioner, educator, health policy, pain management, informatics and certified nurse midwife (Fitzpatrick, Ea, & Bai, 2017).

Having a degree in the nursing occupation provides the chances to interpret patient information and assessing data in making the right decision regarding the actions required to improve the patient’s wellness.

Further, I have the option to focus on assisting patients to meet their needs comprising of spiritual, social, cognitive, emotional and physical.

I have the chance of serving in different places such as community, clinics, hospitals, primary care centres, nursing homes and medical camps (Dossey, Keegan, & Barrere, 2016).

Increasing the level of education in nursing will impact how I compete in the contemporary job market because it is one of the IOM recommendations.

Furthermore, advanced learning ensures that I have sufficient skills and knowledge to deliver quality services to the patients which is one of the required needs in the job market.

Moreover, amplifying the edification level increases the job options since I can serve in different nursing offices and roles such as advanced nurse practitioner, administrator and family nurse (Fitzpatrick et al., 2017).

Besides, increasing the level of learning will influence my duty in the prospect nursing because I will be capable of carrying out different tasks such as clinical nursing and as well as administrative roles. In future, I will be diagnosing and prescribing drugs to patients as long as my education level will have advanced.
