Value Statements and Corporate Culture in the Banking Field

I got acquainted with the value statements used by my company that works in the banking field. This value statement mentioned that the guidelines of the company are solely formed on client satisfaction, trust, and truthfulness among community responsibilities. I have made up my mind to schedule a meeting with the human resource representatives of the company to find out more about the value statements of my company and the way they reflect on the corporate culture.

The Role of Management in the Organization

The HRs began with telling me that in all industries there should be mentors to rule the company’s operations for it to succeed in the field. When it comes to our company, the management team has the main role of protecting the aims of the organization, ethical ideologies, and core values that govern the organization. These are often referred to as vision, values, and mission of an organization. The organization’s values statement is a set of clear principles that guide the operations of an organization stating how work is carried out and how people should act. Culture, being a collection of internalized rules that determine how people should behave in a company, is therefore determined by the values statement. The professionals concluded by saying that it is important to adopt the best values of statement since they govern the workers’ morals and ensure efficiency in operations.

Measuring the Implementation of Values

I went on and asked the professionals how the company measures if the values are in practice. The professionals told me that the first indicator is the feedback they get from the customers. The assessments of the results from the customer-care desk where they file complain suggests if the value of statement is in practice. Secondly, the interpersonal relationship of each employee with the customer and co-workers shows the employees’ commitment in realizing the objectives and goals of the company. The professionals told me that from the results of statements of accounts which are balanced daily, the management is able to tell whether those assigned in handling money portray integrity and trust. Their explanations were based on facts, and I agreed with them.

Regular Reviews of Values

I also asked the professionals of how often the values were reviewed. The professionals responded by saying that the reviews are taken regularly because if not well monitored, they may affect the culture which affects decision making in the company. The professionals went on and suggested that the best way to carry out these reviews is by the workgroup holding focus groups where the understanding of the values and how it affects the behavior to achieve the organization’s mission is tested. They continued and said that the occurrence of any gap should be identified and improvements made. The effect of failing to carry out the reviews made perfect sense to me because it would result in unethical practices which would affect the operations of the company.

Updating Value Statements

The third question that I asked the professionals was how often the value statement is updated in the company. The professionals responded to this by saying that the best time to revise or review the value statements is when a new strategic plan is being made. The act ensures that the objectives in the new plan align with the set guidelines. This made sense and I agreed to it because according to DIY committee guide suitable values statement ensures a favorable business environment where everyone is focused.

Summary

From the interaction with the professionals, I was able to learn that the understanding of the values statement by every individual in an organization is important since it enables them to adopt a good culture. I was also able to learn that the management should be keen in setting up and monitoring the value statements since it affects the operation of the company and welfare of the workers.
