Energy policy in every country on the planet revolve around energy consumption, production, and distribution. Other elements were discovered based on trade agreements and trade boundaries. Furthermore, the monetary incentives for bringing countries together globally impact international policies. According to a report from the US energy sector, the major issue is climate change. The vulnerability caused by decreased water availability, rising temperatures and sea level, and storm-related flooding have all added to the issues (Dixon, McGowan, Onysko & Scheer, 2010). The major here involves the secure supply of energy to many of the US industries, the effects on environment through the use of fossil fuel and the production of fossil fuel is almost at the peak thus requiring our government to think of alternative source of energy.
Discuss the merit and risks associated with one energy policy reform in the US?
In this question, I will choose the topic of increasing supply through alternative or renewable resources. Renewable energy resources are mainly solar and wind energy, although geothermal power can also be added to those types. The merit of the first two is that they do not take many years to regenerate unlike the non-renewable energy like natural gas and petroleum coal. The fossil fuel demand and supply have been under scrutiny since the late 70’s by the American public after the oil crisis in the US exposed it as Middle Eastern countries dependency (Liu, Miao, Liu & Yang, 2009). After this crisis, the US government started manipulating those countries officials but the bureaucrat of this generation is still manipulating them and making the same decision. However, with renewable resources, all countries will be independent because sun and wind are non-regulatory and are landlocked in every state. But the problem arises due to profit accumulation making those renewable sources of energy from being easily accessed.
