The Reset Button

According to the movie, a larger portion of the world had adopted free-market capitalism by the 1990s, paving the way for the fast expansion of the global economy. Furthermore, it implies that the international economy would change as a result of unrestrained financial flows and significant technological advancements. The difficulties and risks encountered in the international markets are highlighted by focusing on Bill Clinton and his story of free policies. Political unrest has the greatest potential to hinder economic growth, first and foremost. Additionally, recurring idiosyncratic risks create contagion problems that could cause global financial market volatility to increase. This movie makes clear what globalization means. The global economy has suffered dramatically in the past decades because most of the jobs have been hit by changes in technology leaving most workers vulnerable. Moreover, the growth of China into an economic power has been connected to the loss of factory working opportunities in developed countries. In addition to that, benefits trade offers to regular employees are far much obvious than the connection between factory closures and freer trade. Free movement of people, goods, and capital is a source of better opportunities for the people on both sections of the trade.

After reading the article and watching the video keenly, I think that globalization has excellent benefits in the world of trade and finances. Globalization has facilitated for easier exchange of goods and services across the world hence improving the living standards of many people. It, however, comes at a cost such that it leads to a number of inequities (Waters, 268). I greatly support and find the three points for ‘mending’ globalization as portrayed in “The Reset Button” adequate. I believe that in future we are bound to witness a rise in global trade to unimaginable lengths in spite of the anti-global climate.
