My weekly reading provided me with a very enlightening and useful learning experience. Writing 40 tweets about various articles on data and computer security provided me with a rare opportunity to understand how important it is to treat private information with respect, particularly when using social media. A lot of the private knowledge that people post on social media has been extremely useful to most businesses in terms of improving targeted marketing. Throughout all of the posts from which I derived my tweets, numerous cyber experts agreed that people should rely more on risk management by knowing the importance of the data they possess and the harm it might inflict if lost. Nonetheless, I encountered various struggles, but the main one was ensuring that all the 40 tweets had precisely 140 characters.
Noticeably, in the recent past, there has been an increase in reports of cases of ransomware viruses which have cost companies a lot of money as well as cyber-attacks targeting vital government agencies like the National Security Agency (NSA). As a result, I chose data and computer security as the topic for my Twitter project. The experience was illuminating because I learned the reason why ransomware virus cases are on the rise, their effects on businesses and how businesses can protect their information. In the process of making the tweets I learned that despite the snowballing threat of cyber-attacks across the globe, different government agencies and companies are developing innovative tactics like the use of smart household electronics and artificial intelligence in trying to thwart the attacks. Additionally, I learned that with the increasing cyber-attacks, some Universities have resulted in finding long-term solutions by developing computer systems that will educate students on cybersecurity.
