In Bred, Oregon, there is a growing human population in a region that was previously heavily forested and vegetated. Due to their proximity to the forest and the likelihood of future fires, this posed a serious risk to the local residents and their properties.
Concerned citizens who wanted to put a stop to the fire threat created the project wildfire initiative. These include people like Jake Keller, Tom Andrade, Lisa Clark, Dennis Luke, Katie Lighthall, Eileen Stein, and Eileen Stein.
The leadership team divided the procedure into phases for this effort. One was that they produced a sense of urgency in the neighborhood. Here, they showed them that forest fires were a detrimental issue that needed to be dealt with and they had a way to do that. Secondly, they formed a strong coalition with different companies and organizations, they communicated their vision and finally, they built on their progressive change.
The leadership also realized success by offering quality education, engineering principles, creating awareness, and allowing the community to enforce local laws. By giving the locals power to change, transform and sustain their environments, they were able to ensure recurrent progress.
Some of the leadership lessons that I learned in this video are the likes of giving people power. Mostly we are afraid to distribute it, but information is power and when distributed, it affects many more. The other important lesson that I have learned is the use of waste. The project did not just collect waste for free to incinerate it, they used it as a natural fuel. This way, they made sure that the environment was safe and they offered fuel in the process. It is a commendable initiative that has helped many people.
