The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) healthcare reforms, sometimes known as Obamacare, are a law that went into effect on March 23, 2010, and established new principles and rules for health care coverage and administration in the United States. This report goes into detail on how patient protection and affordable care have affected daily life at work.
The PPACA has increased workplace insecurity and stress. There is a lot of work to be done under the PPACA, which puts a lot of pressure on personnel who must attend to a large number of patients. The PPACA also forced the industry to change their laws to meet the requirement in the PPACA which result to overburden of the health professionals. It has also increased work to be undertaken in areas of paperwork and reduce the time spend with the patients. Under the PPACA time spend with patients has reduced significantly wit more emphasis on the paperwork. The PPACA has also lead to heavier workloads at work. With a high enrollment of people into the program, the workload has increased dramatically, which has resulted in poor outcomes. The work to be carried out has increased with the introduction of the PPACA. This brings about unnecessary pressure at work with the aim providing services to all patients available. There is also increased dissatisfaction and burnout due to the PPACA. The PPACA has caused dissatisfaction due to increased work related issues that affect the emotional and mental health of a person. In the process of proving services, there is mental and emotional health impact that one undergoes due to the straining resulting from the duties assigned to an individual (Nowicki, 2011).
In conclusion, different ways in which PPACA has impacted on daily life at work include instability and stress, an increase in paperwork, and heavy workload to be undertaken.
