Introduction

It is close to a century now since the inception of this great work of publication from New York Times. Harold Ross and Jane Grant are the brains behind this work of inspiration. Since its birth, The New Yorker has served as a forum for leisure by covering humor perceivable in a rather different way compared to the other magazines of those times like The Judge-1881-1945 and Life. At first, the magazine was all about New York City, but this had to change geographically over time as more people began embracing it.

The New Yorker Publisher

The New Yorker is published by Conde Nast based at World Trade Center and owned by Advance Publications. Currently, over 1.2 copies go into circulation annually, which is a total of 47 publications per year. the internet has been a monumental instrument in publication for current and archived material. Through a website, subscribers can access articles from the editions and even full content; among other channels of distribution are the magazines available in retail stores, DVD issues and the recent release of an iPad version of the current issue of the magazine. In this way, the distribution is guaranteed to reach all interested customers globally.

Features of The New Yorker

Over the ages, The New Yorker has served a great deal capturing commentary works, poetry, cartoons which happens to be my favorite part, criticism and a lot more. These features usually pay key interest in the current affairs, politics, economy, celebrity world, societal make up, education, entertainment, fashion, global issues and virtually all aspects of reportage. The magazine is popular for many reasons especially its iconic covers have propelled the magazine up the international scale. (Temple and Emily)

The New Yorker Audience

It is fair to state that the New Yorker has a large audience, critics, politicians, artists, bloggers, students and parents included all at a point find interest in this magazine. It is accessed by politicians, political pundits, economists, students, children, and scholars, the list is endless. It is undeniably a magazine that has something for everyone. For persons with metropolitan curiosity, New Yorker is the best to look. The commercial section covers various advertisements for interested shoppers. Despite having transitioned through a number of editors since 1951 when Harold passed on, (consumer magazines) the New Yorker still carries the humor it always had and keeps getting better, just like old wine.

Impact of The New Yorker

This publication has given a voice to many silent burning issues making it a very important mass media of the past age, this age and ages to come. Gone are the days when information would be swept under the carpet never to see the light of day. We are embracing an era of freedom of expression and such platforms just serve the purpose right.
