The Middle Ages Analysis

The period between the 5th and the 15th century is known as The Middle Ages. This period lasted from the fall of the Roman Empire through to the Renaissance period. Life in this age was considered to be very hard. Feudalism was used during this period (Morales n.p). This system included the division of the people into social classes. These class systems allowed for slavery.  The church had a significant impact during this period since people could not access education. On the other hand, the period between the 14th and the 17th century was known as the Renaissance period (Morales n.p). Cultural movement characterized this period. This movement brought about a new perception of the world and led to innovations in art, politics, literature, and science techniques. Society’s views towards fashion, women role and the impact of the church changed during this period.

The prevalence of sacred music during the middle ages is attributed to the dominance of the Catholic Church. Musicians got employment in towns and courts all over throughout many lands (Saucedo n.p). Their music involved the use of various instruments and became more refined because of influence from foreign cultures. Most of these musicians were travelers and picked different experiences along the way. In the Renaissance periods, the musicians changed their music away from the sacred music as the church was getting lost (Saucedo n.p). The introduction of the music painting reduced the use of instruments.  Music in this time was dependent on the musician’s individualism and curiosity.

Most of the musicians in the medieval and the renaissance period sang their music based on influence from the classes and humanistic ideas present at the time (Saucedo n.p). Most of the musicians held positions in these social classes. Some of the musicians were mostly priests while others were travelers. This situation has, however, changed over time. Modern day professional musicians derive their inspiration from personal experiences and music is their full-time activity.
