The primary goal of developing a suitable professional path is to investigate an individual’s potential in terms of potentiality and abilities. To be successful, you must have the correct strategic plan. When it comes to choosing the correct professional path, self-awareness is essential since it allows one to appraise who they are. Inadequate planning results in a bad career decision.
When it comes to picking a career, preparation is essential. Every parent has the responsibility to ensure that their children’s character and potential are detected at an early age, as this makes the decision-making process easier. If correction is not made early enough, poor planning can lead to choosing the wrong career path, making an individual unhappy for the rest of their lives. Nobody for this matter would like to fall as the victim. Chang (2015) denotes that when making a transition into the nursing role as a profession, whether full-time or internship, there is a great need to develop a search strategy to plan on obtaining your goal and get a position to fit one’s interest, values, skills, and personality. During a job search, it is important to note that many employers fill employees without advertisement to save time, energy and money, meaning that many organizations do not employ people from campuses. A strategy for this matter is needed, and to develop one; it is crucial to have a list of a group that an individual is interested in as one keeps a log of activities to avoid any confusion. The internet is not the only means of searching for an opportunity. One can talk to people or even ask questions about an interested job. It is crucial therefore to define what one is looking for by having a glance at features like the geographic location, application of skill set, interest or passion and finally, check if the individual fits in with the work values and personality compatibility.
Tagher, et al. (2016) suggests that just like other professions, nursing as well need to be registered. A professional nursing license is important because it offers protection to the public from harm by having a minimal qualification and competencies for safe entry-level practitioners. Having a license bring benefit both to the public and individual nurse as it brings clarity on legal authorization for the practitioners. All board of nurses is responsible for evaluating permit applications, issue licenses, renew license among other functions. It is, therefore, important to know why to request, know how to find job openings, use proper ways of applying for the job and so forth. Within the first five years, the student must be able to be whole in terms body, spirit, mind and emotionally. Holistic life balance is important as the practitioner deals with different patients having various problems, be cool, calm and collected so as to address their issues.
At the workplace, there are physical and emotional outcomes that occur. Bailey (2017) found out that the only thing that practitioners need to acquire shock absorbers as some of the presented issues will be shocking and unhealthy. The symptoms of stress at the workplace may vary as the cognitive symptoms may include memory challenges, indecisiveness, inability to concentrate just to mention but a few. Physically the symptoms may include muscle tension, headaches among others. Emotionally, depression, moodiness, anxiety. In the nursing profession, one has to learn how to cope with the different stresses. It is vital to recognize one’s role in problem-solving and confront the situation by using a degree of risk taking behavior. The top two stressors are death issues and workload. To cope with this stressors, nurses should avoid unnecessary stress by learning to say nowhere necessary or avoid people taking advantage of you.
Secondly, alter the situation by expressing self can help my career planning become effective (Masters, 2015). Both the nurse and the patient must be willing to compromise to the situation at hand and be assertive. It is also key to accept what cannot change. Sometimes as human try to change the impossible. For instance, a nurse can have an attachment to the patient and if the patients die, at times because of the attachment depression check it. It is important, to anticipate the possible outcomes. Another thing is to make adaptation to the stressor. By knowing what challenges nursing comes with, it is crucial to have shock absorbers and know what is needed and what is not. Put the focus on the positive and avoid negative energy so as to be productive. Finally, it is important to take care of one’s personal needs. For instance, create time for relaxing and connecting with others or doing something that one likes doing during leisure time. As part of the career planning process, it is also important to put into consideration room for furthering education. When developing a plan, the resources available can help policy makers in improving the community in the fairest and efficient way.
