The johari window is a technique for helping people explore their relationships with themselves and others. I have my johari window, which has assisted me in evaluating my self-awareness and actions toward others. Several thoughts fly through my head as I fill up the johari window. First, I needed to assess my knowledge of others. Second, I wanted to improve my listening skills. In addition, I wanted to strengthen my interpersonal and intergroup relationships. I designed the johari window with the idea of using it as one of the methods that emphasized individual soft skills. From the johari window, I was able to learn several key things i needed to do to be more open. First, I needed to evaluate anything I knew about myself and was willing to share with others. I needed to build trust with others so that I can be able to share with them openly. Additionally I wanted to be in a position to disclose things that were pestering me so that I can get assistance to solve them. I learnt that I should disclose my information to others so that they can also open up to me. There are clues I had which helped me to know about myself. This section of my johari window fell under the blind area. I was in a position to know that i did not know much about myself but others knew it better.
With the help of others, I was able to know better about my positive and negative part of me. What others perceived about me was a clue that would help me to evaluate myself more. In my hidden area I was able to know particular aspects about me that others were not aware of. My johari window would have the blind and the hidden area only. Reason being I wouldn’t like people to know some of my traits that I was not aware of. However if I knew my strengths and weakness I would make such a johari, because it would omit the open area.
