Gender Roles
Gender roles refer to the learned or acquired traits by an individual as the right one to their sex as prescribed by the current cultural norms used in the society (Rossi, 2018).
Impact on Society
Most people are never comfortable talking about various gender topics as they think that the process of altering the status quo is undesirable. It is the sex roles that determine the way the men and women in the society should think, talk, associate with one another, and dress within the communal context (Kail, 2018). They are passed from the older adults to the young ones. At the homestead, the people have certain assumptions that the male person has the duty of making decisions, taking care of financial ability of the firm, while, the ladies are expected to take off all the house duties as well as the raising of kids in the community (Rossi, 2018). At the workplace, there exists presumption about power, work position, organizational framework, as well as labor.
Gender Inequality
Sex roles affect almost all the aspects of life for all people in the community (Berenbaum, 2018). The gaps between the genders are real as well as imagined, but they are just utilized as tactics of justifying the existence of different groups in the society. It must also be noted that it is from these perceived differences results in the rise in gender inequality. The gender inequality does not bring any good outcomes to the development of the community, as the male is being seen as the primary providers, demanding, apathetic, as well as uncompromising (Morgan, 2018). The ladies have been raised to be submissive, passive, and always out to satisfy the needs of the male person. It is this that has resulted in a rise in expectations where the man is responsible for payment of all the financial bills primarily because of his gender. It has resulted in the emergence of many vices such as robbery and kidnapping which are mainly done by the men (Rossi, 2018). The pressure bestowed on the male members of the community forcing them to get involved in some undesirable activities that tend to impact the development of the community adversely. The case also explains the reasons why the women are always out looking for a male partner who she can depend on for a living (Morgan, 2018). If the duty were shared then the existence of unwanted behaviors would not be prevalent in the community today.
Negative Impacts on Family and Society
The development of the family and society at large is impacted negatively by sex roles (Berenbaum, 2018). For instance, it is only the males who are expected to provide for the community, which has led to many of them getting better education while the women tend to be less educated. This has seen the community realize weak growth in the academic fields because of their tendency to picture the man as a supreme being (Kail, 2018). Moreover, it has also seen the women fail to actively participate in sports, politics, as well as many other areas of the economy. The gender roles have also resulted in the separation of marital relationships in the community today. For instance, if the woman does not like cooking she may try to show that she can do it during the dating period so that the man marries her, but just on realizing that she cannot take care of her roles then the association will be broken instantly (Berenbaum, 2018).
