Although there are distinct eating habits in those numerous nations, common food is present throughout the entire region close to the Mediterranean Sea. Due to the proximity of the sea and the abundance of fish there, the traditional diet is most prevalent in coastal areas. The only real distinction between the food consumed in France and Italy is in the preparation. Fish is typically consumed by Southerners, whilst veal is primarily consumed by Northerners. Pasta produced from northern Italian wheat is served with seafood and vegetables. In other meals, tomatoes and kinds of pasta are widely used since its introduction. There is widespread use of soup produced from fish and additional ingredients. Most dishes in Italy are accompanied by wine. Other foods used in the region include fruits and olive oil.

People who live in the Mediterranean are not prone to chronic diseases and usually live longer due to the consumption of traditional diets, which have diverse nutrients. Nutrients and nonessential phytochemicals which are beneficial to health are found in conventional plant and seafood that Mediterranean people consume. All their meals have diverse admeasurement of the three macronutrients- proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. A proper equivalence of these macronutrients is provided by selection of healthy meals, like the dietary patterns of the Mediterranean. Furthermore, these Mediterranean meals give priority to specific types of the three macronutrients supplied by particular foods such as processed grains over whole grains, unsaturated fats instead of saturated fats, and plant proteins rather than animal proteins. The reason for this is because they are beneficial for human health. Healthy meals have various foods in each group of food, which provide vital minerals, vitamins, and not leaving behind dietary fiber (John J & Marilyn, 2017).
