The symbolism of the tree in the poem

The tree in the poem is a symbol for an individual in society who survives without the help and support of friends or loves. It depicts the concept of good vs evil by offering an overview of a decent leader who thrives in a society riddled with corruption and other vices. The speaker, on the other hand, states that he cannot make it alone, implying that it would be hard for him to survive in such a society without support from friends or lovers. The twigs and moss intertwined around the tree represents the societal vices such as inequality, corruption and insecurity. These are the personal and political challenges that the speaker confronts. According to him, dealing with these challenges is a collective bargain, implying that he can hardly deal with challenges alone but requires the support of the society and friends.

Passage B

The American political and cultural history has undergone evolution across the years. Various races in the U.S., for instance, currently enjoy a sense of belonging and this is in line with the statement “We shall find that God of Israel is among us, when ten of us shall be able to resist thousands of enemies.” The end of slave trade to the decline in racism is a clear indication of the long path to cultural identity in the U.S. as for political ideology, America was liberated from the British rule and has since become a super power and this is in line with the statement “we shall shame the faces of many God’s worthy servants and cause their prayers to be turned into curses upon them.”
