Critique of the Journal of the Steinhardt Foundation for Jewish Life: New Trends in Fundraising 2010, Grassroots Fundraising Journal 2017
Voluntary and nonprofit organizations are looking forward to increasing the streams of their donations by adopting new techniques and new methods of soliciting funds. The new technology has helped those organizations in launching and conducting their campaigns more effectively as compared to the previous era. They have been able to reach masses of internet users through sharing their real stories, experiences and requesting the donations. They have to present to the potential donors on the importance of the organization’s existence. The nonprofit organizations have to convince the stubborn potential donors. These organizations have offered a wide variety of means through which the donors would use. They are using the fast-growing social media platforms to reach specific potential donors who demonstrated some characteristics or interests on their account platforms. However, more approaches are needed. It would be much better a certain percentage of the profits realized in the profit-making organizations was directly injected into the nonprofit organizations so as increase assistance rather than depending only on voluntary donors.
American cancer society has shown a lot of progress in trying to fight cancer. It remains to be an international threat, and it needs significant attention. The mission statement for the ACS is “to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer” (ACS 2018). Its vision is to reduce the deaths of cancer and hence soliciting funds to promote cancer research will be in line with that.
The American cancer society is a non-profit organization that got established in 1913. It was found with the primary purpose of fighting cancer in the United States. So far it has more than 900 offices operating all over the nation. The 900 offices have been operating under the eleven geographical divisions thatches been set in place. Earlier before its establishment, statistics revealed that at least 75000 people died each year from cancer in the United States. Initially, at its early stages, the American Cancer Society launched a campaign for raising the awareness in all the states. By late 1930s the number of volunteers had grown tremendously.
American Cancer Society has shown great efforts in focusing on the research. It has provided grants to researchers who have continued to go deep in the research for cancer. Specifically, it was involved in the funding of the research that revealed the link between smoking and cancer.
Since 1991, a total of 2.1 million deaths related to cancer have been averted. Through community initiatives, American society has been able to 781 thousand free cancer screening in the communities all over the United States. The ACS organization has been able to provide 6.3 million rides to the cancer patients to offer them maximum care at the right institutions worldwide. Since the research is very important to help in coming up with new solutions to protection and treatment of cancer, the American cancer society has heavily invested a total of 4.6 billion U.S dollars into cancer research since the year 1946 (ACS 2018).
The American cancer society has a great chance of succeeding in cancer elimination through the help other partners such as the World Health Organization. The main goal for the world health organization is ensuring a healthy society and cancer eradication to be one of the components of a healthy society.
The American cancer society has the opportunity of receiving donations from the public. Internet users can be potential donors of this organization. They can launch the campaign in the social media platforms. The ACS organization can solicit some funds from the World Bank. World Bank provides donations to projects that seem to be working towards meeting the SDGs and the MDGs (Morris 2013)
