Technological advancements and data mining

Technological advancements have changed the world over the past 20 years and significantly impacted the corporate world. If the cutting-edge and practical information technology techniques are not used, the competitive climate in which businesses operate will not last. One method used by enterprises to ensure that decisions made within their organizations are made fairly and in a way that will support their corporate goals is data mining. Every business needs to make decisions, but this is insufficient if there is no foundation for those decisions. A judgment is considered to be valid once past events have been examined and future tendencies have been predicted or projected. Many businesses have therefore adopted data mining because it allows the companies to extract previous data, make a comparison and interpret them into business knowledge.

Data mining and the government

Joseph (2013) states that one of the application areas of data mining is the government. The government makes use of data mining intelligence to gather data from millions of people to trace the relationship between populations when tracing a terrorist. Population in a particular geographical area produces millions of information in a single day. The data may include the phone call, Skype, WhatsApp chats, Facebook comments and posts, Google searches, and images. The government through the application of data mining and warehousing gathers such information and then generate similarities.

The future of data mining

I think that the use of data mining may have a significant impact on the businesses, however, regarding searching for the terrorist I find it to erroneous. Nevertheless, I have thought that if the future of data mining has a technique that would systematically identify the targeted data from millions of data collected, then it would be a breakthrough in the business world.
