The idea of training teams or workgroups in the healthcare industry has been acknowledged as being in development for a while. Healthcare, a field that formerly significantly borrowed from other industries on the idea of team training, has seen a number of techniques refined and modified for the unique and varied requirements. More evidence has come to light, supporting the idea that team training is a successful strategy for boosting patient safety. More research is conducted to examine the conditions through which training of team works has an influence and what has been the determining factor in the maintenance of this improvement (Salas, & Rosen, 2013).

Continuous Improvement

The principle of continuous improvement is basically inclined in the application of lean in the healthcare sector, which has a higher influence on the responsibilities roles as well as the job responsibilities of the employees. The focus has been on improving the process and teamwork. However, various job characteristics in healthcare are making it hard to implement a number of lean practices (Drotz, & Poksinska, 2014).

Customer Focus

In the study, Gustavsson states that there are many challenges in the healthcare today and highlights that patient focus is one of them. It lacks in the improvement as well as designing of healthcare processes. Healthcare professionals have been taking care of improvement of processes, which is wrong since it is the patients who experience the whole process. The implementation of teamwork in the healthcare sector has enhanced the better performance of medical professionals. The patients are not left out and have become an important source of information to help maintain a continuous improvement of quality in healthcare. Furthermore, continuous improvement focuses on both the patients and all the stakeholders in the healthcare. It means to observe a steady continuous improvement in the quality of healthcare provided to the sector patients, medical professionals and all the stakeholders have to work together as a team.

Examination of the Application of the Principles

The principle of teamwork that has been used in enhancing patient safety can be perfectly applied to the improvement of patient quality similar the way patient focus has been significant to increase the quality of management practice. With teamwork, both the stakeholders will be able to work hand in hand to ensure the patient is receiving the care that they deserve. With the professional teams, working as a group, it becomes easier to manage them, and as already seen, the incorporation of patient adds crucial information to make the process of health care streamline. In recent years, there are examples of patients working hand in hand with healthcare professionals in the real improvement of the care process. Furthermore, continuous focus on the improvement of healthcare process can be in the perfect application together with teamwork since lean leadership encourages workgroup as a means of attaining a fast process of patient quality management.
