When I gave the idea of using movies as a teaching tool some serious attention, I created a class option called Hobart Shakespearean Film Club, page 161, says the author. The quote is crucial and benefits Montessori because it illustrates how the curriculum was created to increase students’ familiarity with and appreciation for film, which will enhance the students’ capacity for critical thought, responsibility, time management, and writing. Every club member is entitled to take out a DVD from the class-in library on Friday for the weekend. The DVD monitors and records the transaction and hands over the question and hands over the film and a sheet of twelve to fifteen questions.
The questions must be answered in a grammatically correct sentence, and the DVD should be returned on Monday morning, and if the kids forget them at home, they are suspended from the club for a couple of weeks. This teaches the kids that taking the films home is not a right but a privilege. After a while, the kids began to request if they could work on a film as a group. The kids developed friendship among themselves as they watch the film, discuss the questions together and practice their writing. The film club helped the children develop a curiosity to know more and a craving to for something new.
“Friday afternoons are always exciting in room 56, page 165.” The students yearned for every Friday afternoon because it was the day for film borrowing for the weekend and this happens that each student has spent some days attempting to choose the movie to borrow. According to my observation and understanding, I believe the quote demonstrates the essence of movies in our learning and daily lives. The movies have all sorts of genres like dramas, westerns, thrillers, fantasies, comedians and foreign films. A film helps the kids in their personal development as they are in the process of learning. Films carry moral lessons and strong messages because movies provide the perfect fun as well as engaging in cultural, political and historical contexts. Films are also good for literacy adaptations as the movies have well-developed plots and inspiring characters with real emotions and feelings.
Chapter 17
”Most students are exposed to a very limited selection of Shakespeare in choosing the play, page 209” there are great plays that Hobart Shakespeare have staged full production of Henry Iv, parts I and II, Twelfth Night: Measure for measure and the Writers Tale which contains themes of profound and rich relevance for the children. By reading the copies of summary together in class, the students understand the story to be performed that year and the characters that drive it. They students will be aware of the play’s themes and the objectives to be learned during the year and the students leave their first meeting when they are eager to begin reading the actual play. Plays are a reflection of the events or trends in the society thus the quote characterizes the limitation of access to helpful artworks.
”Our Shakespeare productions are performed right in our classroom; there’s no place like home, page 217.” The room is cleared to allow the performance of unabridged plays complete with sensational choreography, a full-blown rock and perfectly articulated Shakespeare. There were no sets of costumes, but by forging sets and costumes, they ensured that Shakespeare’s language is the start of the play and the audience experiences a play like never before. Even though the students were invited to perform on huge stages, the students learned that there it is more memorable and educational to stage plays right in the classroom. Montessori is attributed by learning through reading and practical to enhance memorizing; hence the quote serves my learning skills well.
It is clear from the above quotes and explanations it is clear that children can learn through a film by watching, participate in class plays and attend live play performance in various stages as a way of learning. I find the quotes in chapter 13 and 17 relevant, and I recommend the Montessori elements in the chapters to other learners.
