The student management system (database) is a design that is intended to maintain track of the college administration’s information, tests, students, and tuition structure. A database is a collection of information arranged in an integrated circuit and conveniently accessible, manageable, and updatable (Bernstein, 2003). This system grants authorized users access to academically registered students’ records. Because it is customisable, it also assists stakeholders with information about the given institutions such as the academic calendar, cost structure, and other information about the college. As a result, it is intended to make administrative work easier over the world and to increase efficiency in organizations. What types of information or data would the users of the proposed system like to have compiled?
The users of this system are mostly the academic staff and the student’s body. Therefore, the systems should be able to avail all data that pertains the smooth running of the college. Information such as up-to-date timetables,various college functions, thestudent’s fee information, and time for other co-curriculum activities throughout the year, lecturers and their respective subjects they teach. The documented achievements of the institutionfor the year or an extended periodshould also be included as per the needs of the college (Date, 2006).
a. What would this provide evidence for or answer?
The purpose of this system is to maintain the records of the students, the modules and course on which they are registered.It is a distributed application, and the data is centrally stored by the administration of the institution but can be accessed by the academic staff, students and the various administrators across the college. The system will also give detailed prescription of the courses offered and their duration. For example, when a student wants to get their academic grades or progress and the timetable for next semester, they will need to access the system through a uniqueidentification password given only to the subscribers of the system and they will find the timetable there as well.
2. What kind of reports would the users of the proposed system like to be able to generate?
The development of this system will contain several types of reports such as, the academic report for the students where the students and their tutors where they can track their progress, it will also generate the school fees report which will include the fees of a semester, the balance fee in case of any, and the entire fees for their full course. The system will also generate the exam report which will give details about the examination dates, rules and regulations and the penalties for any examination malpractices.
3. What is the feasibility of the proposal?
The feasibility of the proposal is high due to the fact that the ongoing trials happen to give positive feedback about the ease of use of the system.
b. Do you think the proposal is feasible or possible?
I think that the proposal is possible because it can be done and there are other projects of a similar kind that are in use today (Kim & Lochovsky, 1989).
What possible problems or barriers do you foresee?
The future of the existing system will be subject to continuous change as technology advances, which may prove hard to decipher at the moment. Therefore, in future, the system must be able to allow rapid resolution and formulation of challenges, and it’s also required to interact with other information sources as required both as a consumer of related information and as an information source during the process of resolution of queries.
c. Are there any specific assumptions that need to be made?
Several assumptions have been formulated from this such as the risk of using this system to manage data will be minimal or none at any level while the project development is underway.
