Sociology is the study of human interpersonal interactions. Interactions among the various human groups and how those groupings affect an individual’s behavior provide the foundation of interpersonal relationships. The social science of sociology focuses on how people interact within the groups in which they are found. The following notable human groupings include racial, religious, ethnic, social class, and age groups. Sociology typically examines society and how that particular society runs. According to sociology, a society as a whole tends to support the ideas that its individuals advance. Sociology recognizes that a society has institutions that guide the nature in which the society develops and influence the operations of a given society. Therefore, the subject matter of sociology is wide. Sociology is inclusive of religion, crime, state, family and the divisions that may be existent within a given family. At the personal level, sociology delves in the source of conflicts amongst different humans. The conflicts could be caused by the differences in the set of beliefs, region, cultural practices and the race amongst different individuals within a given society. Within the societal level, sociology seeks to explain different matters within the society that are related to the conduct and behaviour of human beings. The matters that sociology explains are based on relationships. Some of the relationships include discrimination and prejudice, law and crime, wealth and poverty and education and schools. The matters that are mentioned above seek to affirm that there are various phenomena and aspects within the society that can only be discussed in relation to one other. For example, sociology defines law based on the motive in which it solves crime in the society.

The three sociological changes that have impacted my life over the past decade are urbanization, population growth and increased technological uptake. Urbanization has led to the development of new infrastructure such as roads and malls. Additionally, there have been increased incidences of traffic snarl up. Population growth has resulted in increased enrolment in the institutions that I have studied in over the past decade. Interacting with people from various races and cultures has enabled be to appreciate the diversity of humanity. Increased technological uptake has created an ease in communication through the social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Sociology has a relationship with science and technology. Science and technology have the primary intent of solving the issues that could be faced by the society. The conceptual framework that is often used in science and technology is derived from the sociological perspectives. For example, development of a new computer application must delve on the human-computer interactions and the literacy levels that the intended audience possess. Literacy and education are all additional aspects of sociology. Additionally, sociology can be applied in explaining the barrier that humans may have in accessing science and technology. Sociology facilitates the understanding of socio-cognitive divide and offer solutions on how the cognitive divide can be bridged to increase literacy in science and technology.

The advances in technology have often led to social change. Technology is the result of application of scientific knowledge on seeking solution to problems and facing humanity. Notably, technology applies in seeking solution for transport, infrastructure and communication. Biotechnology is a form of technological advancement that has altered the fertility of humans and other living things that are existent. Through biotechnology, women who are unable to conceive can have fertility drugs that in return ensure that the women are able to bear children. Family is a basic institution that is revered in the society. Enhancing the fertility in women is a form of social change that has enabled women who are naturally incapable of bearing children to avoid the backlash of the society through the use of the fertility enhancing drugs. The internet is a form of technology that has also been credited with connecting humans through creation of a communication platform to be used by all.

The reading assignment used in writing the weekly one page reflection paper is the article by Vidal (1). Vidal presents a case that asserts that the changes in technology are a result of human brains and development. According to the author, the success of a leading technological company, Apple, rests in the research and brains of the employees. The perception asserts that the conceptual framework that is used in both science and technology is premised in sociological perspectives since research intends to address an issue that is facing humanity. The sociology of work is beneficial when discussing how sociology has a relationship with science and technology.

Technology has served to change my prism of science and sociology. Prior to the study of sociology as a course, my understanding of science and technology was different and were two fields of academia that had no relationship. However, the existence of technology and the sensitivity that technology has on the literacy and ethical concerns that are raised by the society is credited for the changes in my prism. Technology is a product of science. Technology aims at solving a pertinent issue within the society. Therefore, technology has to conform to the needs that may be existent within a given society. As such, technology has to consult with sociological provisions related to the issue that they intend to address in the society. Concisely, since technology is a product of science and technology, it solves the problems of humans; technology is a product of interactions between sociology and science.

There is an intricate relationship between technology, science and technology. Some forms of technological advancement result from the social sciences and not the mainstream science subjects such as mathematics, biology, physics and chemistry. Social sciences enables one to have an understanding of the indigenous knowledge that is used by the society to solve the common problems they are facing and how such technology can be modified into modern technology. For example, there are indigenous knowledge that has been used in healthcare. The native society had medicine men with knowledge of herbal medicine that could be used in treatment. The modern healthcare system has a herbal department that is premised on the traditional healthcare system. Therefore, technology is a result of interaction between science and technology.

Part two

The three areas of my life that have been impacted the most by science and technology is education, communication and health. Technology has led to ease of accessing information through the reputable online libraries and available of journals online. Second, the use mobile phones and internet has significantly reduced the cost of communication besides aiding ease of interaction among. Technology has led to the development of healthcare devices such as body scans machines that are used in treatment.
