Breeding the sheep in February-March duration as outlined in this calendar, as mating in November-December period because they produce a similar number of lambs. Mating on February-March period in Dookie Farm is because the growth of pasture in June and July gives out quality feed that is needed by ewes during their late pregnancy.

Additionally, the growth of pasture in August and September gives out quality feed in the large quantity needed for lactation, thus being regarded as the best practice for not requiring supplementary feeding. Most probably, the grazing management needs to be organized in winter to avoid the challenges of underfeeding the ewes. Such efforts include setting stock-taking actions to spread the sheep in the available pasture during the lambing and late pregnancy of the ewe.

Other activities noted in this calendar regarded as the best industrial practice is the crutching, shearing, and weaning.  The selection by the farm to conduct lambing in July-August period is regarded as viable and simplistic because of the unmolested ewes are required to be crutched in July and before lambing process begins. In any case, the ewes are mulesed before lambing. They should be jetted. Weaning is always conducted off-summer because it is done where there are quality and best pastures. After the weaning time, the poor weaners are supposed to be put into a different good paddock that has grain supplements. As the best practice, the lambs need to be weaned after approximately 12 weeks to avoid infective worm larvae. Winter shearing is also avoided to avoid large feeding requirements and other issues such as availability labor and harvesting in the enterprise. Shearing during the summers has an advantage because of the fine weather of more daylight hours, although it would of no help to enterprises that hire contractors. Therefore, selecting the shearing time is considerable depending with different operational factors in the farm. As such, the Dookie Agricultural College farm selected is the best time as practiced by other farms in Australia.
