Saga Briggs

Briggs, in my perspective, is writing for a broad audience.

She frequently uses the word “we” while referring to certain topics, for example. She begins by inquiring as to why people enjoy studying. In this instance, it is evident that the author is speaking to the broader population rather than a specific set of people. Briggs adds, “we do not like being wrong.” No single group enjoys being incorrect. In other words, everyone aspires to be perfect in whatever they do.

Furthermore, Briggs questions whether our forefathers were intellectually humble.

She still raises a broad question here. Noticeably, such kind of question is also not directed to a particular individual or group but the general population. Notably, the general population includes even the children. In fact, the author notes that children tend to dislike boasting as they mature.

Purpose

I think Saga Briggs accomplishes her purpose.

In the first place, she can identify some of the problems that people face while approaching leaning. Further, she goes ahead to relate such problems to the lack of intellectual humility, as well as the love of learning. In trying to accomplish her purpose further, the author uses practical examples to show how learning is aided by the intellectual property. From her work, it is now clear that the intellectual humility is distinctly tied together with the learning’s curiosity, love, and a desire for seeking the truth. Remember, the work of the author was mainly to explore the intellectual humility.

Voice and Tone

Because of the nature of the topic that Saga Briggs is investigating, I think her voice and tone are not appropriated.

In particular, the voice is essential for the enhancement of the writing personality. In this work, the author, Saga Briggs seems not to be using a strong voice. Most importantly, a strong voice is helpful for making every word count. Additionally, it plays a significant role in grabbing the attention of the readers as well as the establishment of their relationship. In some instances, she even goes ahead to use several sources without listing them at the end of the work.

Responsibility

Usually, it is the responsibility of any serious writer to acknowledge the work of other writers. But in this case, however, several sources are quoted by Saga Briggs without providing a reference list.

The credibility of the work of Briggs is negatively affected by failing to have a list of references. In the first place, it makes it difficult for the reader to engage in a detail follow up of the facts or ideas that are referred to by the paper. In the same way, the use of sources helps in distinguishing the findings and ideas of the author from the ones drawn from other writings. In this case, some of the readers of the Briggs’ book would fail to take the information seriously.

Context, Format, and Genre

The use of intellectual humility by the author is also evident for solving the learning problem. Intellectual humility is what makes it possible for one to learn. At this point, Briggs includes the work of different researchers to boost the credibility of her findings. I feel the problem needs a permanent solution. However, I think my intellectual humility’s level is high, and developing it further involves enjoying learning. Briggs uses a strategy of belief to establish the existence of a problem within education. She is careful to balance her work with other sources. The audience is encouraged that the problem exists by explaining how things are changing. Currently, skills are more valued by the employers.
