Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”

“The Road Not Taken” is a poem by Robert Frost that takes the reader through the feeling of dilemma and the consequences of choices. The poem is quite symbolic as it metaphorically alludes to the way life presents itself to people every other day. It is quite common for people to find themselves in a situation where they have to make choices.

Making a Rare Choice

While some of the choices have been taken by many people before, others seem rather rare. The narrator in the poem chose to take the one that was least taken and the fact that he took the road left him wondering how the journey would have turned out had he taken the other road. However, as he goes down the road, he finds himself meeting more forked roads and is faced by the same choice he had at the beginning of the poem.

Choosing to be Unique

The poem is not only symbolic and allegorical. It is also a narration of how one would choose to be unique in their choices. The narrator chooses to take a road that is hardly ever taken. However, in his quest for uniqueness, he realizes that the road has been taken by other people before him. This fact makes him realize that his choice is not special after all. This fact may allude to the fact that in life, there are always people who have made the same choices as we take. No choices have never been taken before and whether one makes the rarest choice or not, someone may have definitely taken the same path in life.

Lessons on Choices

Generally, Frost’s poem is a great lesson on how people make choices in life and the consequences that follow.
