During the early morning hours, the little boy climbed on Teddy’s shoulder to eat his boiled egg and banana. He slept on each lap, hoping to become a house-mongoose one day. His mother, Rikki-tikki’s mother, lived in General Segowlee. She had taught him what to do when he met a white man.
When the family goes to sleep, Rikki begins to patrol the house. He runs into Chuchundra, who suggests that Nag may have a wicked plan. Soon after, he overhears Nagaina and Nag plotting to kill the Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. The two are surrounded by their unhatched eggs, which will be a good target for the evil birds.
