Which communication techniques to rely on in solving the dispute between these two directors?
The technique employed will reduce the chances of conflict between the two directors. The best precautionary measures against conflict always involve thorough preparation before the meeting (Greg, 2017). The meeting should be chaired in a strong manner. The technique involves sending the agenda in advance. Upon the beginning of the meeting, the group should be asked to agree to it. If a conflict starts, a good agenda makes it possible for a group to go out of conflict. If the groups agree to the goals of the meeting, the interruptions leading to conflict aren’t likely to occur.
How will you plan this critical meeting between yourself and the departmental heads?
It is important to choose a neutral location while planning for conflict resolution in order to maintain the appearance of neutrality during the conversation (Greg, 2017). A private room is chosen for discussion to avoid distractions from listening to each party. Successful mediation between the two directors should be allocated enough time for enough conversation. The planning should allow for the commitment of parties during scheduling of meeting.
Alternatively, during the planning, the meeting should allow comfort of the surrounding through provision of amenities to both the parties. Amenities provided in the meeting must be equally distributed between the two conflicting parties.
What will be the agenda of the meeting? Provide an outline.
The agenda of the meeting will be conflict resolution between research & development and sales departments. Purpose of the meeting is due to the fact that the two departments cannot harmonize their strategies for the better achievement of the project goals. The agenda for communication ensures that the groups to understand what is being communicated (Charmayne, 2017).
In executing and providing closure for the joint, voluntary, and crucially important participation of these two executive directors, which specific goals will you attempt to gain joint agreement upon?
Both departments should have defined relationships so that they can set up rules and processes to prevent disputes. The departments do not understand much about what the other is about. The goal of defined relationships is likely to lead to conflict resolution. The departments should align their joint planning and training for proper understanding of each department by the other (Charmayne, 2017). Through the initiative, the sales department understands and uses research & development terminology.
How will you measure whether and/or the degree to which these have been reached?
The method of measuring the achievement of goals is through monitoring of the relationship between sales and research & development team. Monitoring will be based on regular interaction of the departments. For example, this will be done by checking if staff from different departments can freely interact or if the departmental directors can share ideas.
