Registered Nurses (RNs)

“Provide and direct medical care, advise patients and the general public about different health issues, and provide guidance and social assistance to patients and their family members” (Occupational Outlook Handbook). Registered nurses serve in nursing homes, hospitals, home care providers, medical offices, schools, the military, and correctional facilities. Certification from an accredited nursing school, a bachelor’s degree in nursing, or an associate degree in nursing may be obtained to become an RN. To work as a registered nurse, one must be licensed.

This book offers nurses over 2000 care plans that are made handle the common conditions that nurses come across in their practice. The information is presented in an easy to follow and reader-friendly format, it is practical enough to provide adequate guidelines on diagnosis and interventions. The care plans are for both medical and surgical conditions, providing comprehensive details for all nurses.

The book is helpful for any nurse, whether starting up in the profession or those who have had experience. It is a nurse’s everyday book because it helps one to handle conditions they are encountering or are likely to encounter.

Dauvrin Marie & Lorant, Vincent. “Leadership and Cultural Competence of Healthcare Professionals: A Social Network Analysis”. Health Equity Research Series, vol. 64, no. 2, pp. 200-210.

In this article, the authors discuss how the nursing profession has been, and continue to be impacted by international migration and globalization. The nursing profession is at task to provide culturally competent care. The authors look at how nurse leadership can help achieve cultural competence of healthcare professionals. The cross-sectional survey conducted by the authors revealed that the cultural competence of the healthcare professionals was directly proportional with the cultural competence of their leaders.

This article is important because it shows how cultural competence is acquired, and the place of leadership in this process. It points to any nurse the importance of social relationships and the effects of leadership in achieving culturally competent care.
