The Importance of Job Satisfaction

The favorable emotions that people experience during their regular workdays are referred to as job satisfaction (Pengilly, 2010). Job satisfaction is given priority attention throughout discussions and research conducted at work because it is directly related to how employees will perform. There are essentially two forms of job satisfaction in terms of the caliber of the employees’ attitudes regarding their roles. The most prevalent one is global job satisfaction, which has to do with employees’ overall perspectives on their position within the company. Job facet satisfaction is the second one and it attributes to the attitude towards certain job qualities like the hierarchy at work, salary, growth opportunities, relationships with workmates, job environment, and benefits. In order to pick out the specific job qualities that need to be modified, the organization makes use of the results from job facet satisfaction. Afterward, the organization will be in a better position to deal with the upcoming matters in the job environment and positively change the general findings from job satisfaction.

Maria Santiago’s Job Satisfaction

Maria Santiago’s job as an accountant at Lemnah Company brings out a feeling of life satisfaction. She seems to enjoy working for the organization since it is something she has desired to do for a very long time. The company characteristic that increases her job satisfaction is the fact that in her work Maria allocates complementary skills as an accountant and this leads to an increased level of enthusiasm while undertaking her tasks.

Darell Washington’s Job Dissatisfaction

The insurance company that Darell Washington works for contributes to the decreased level of satisfaction due to the fact that the job requires him to travel and this does not give him enough time to spend with his family. Darell’s job as a Quality Control Agent fails to provide him with new challenges once in a while and that is another reason why his satisfaction with the job decreased. Moreover, the insurance company doesn’t accord the employees the much-needed respect and fact that the company is full of politics is another cause of negative job satisfaction. The relationship between life and job is significant and jobs have to meet the requirement for full development of a person’s potential.

Mike Walker’s Job Satisfaction and Challenges

The characteristic that increases Mike Walker’s satisfaction at Outdoor Inc is the fact that the company’s products are of very high quality and that there is a lot of diversity in the products sold by the company. The company’s characteristic that negatively impacts his satisfaction levels are the demands that the company has concerning the store’s daily sales.

The Impact on Performance

Maria is highly motivated and she is satisfied with her job. She is, therefore, likely to have a high performance while executing her daily tasks. Darell is most likely to underperform due to the fact that he is not enthusiastic about his job, he also does not enjoy his duty to travel and the disrespect of the employees. Therefore, the whole company’s environment is discouraging and demotivating. Mike is disappointed about the performance of the store but he loves his job. He is, therefore, likely to feel challenged and improve his performance.

The Likelihood of Undertaking Extra Tasks and Job Tenure

Maria and Mike are likely to undertake tasks that are not necessarily part of their duties. Darell, on the other hand, is unlikely to voluntarily commit to doing tasks that are beyond his job description. Due to the fact that Maria and Mike are satisfied with their jobs they are likely to stay with the company for a longer period of time. Darell is not satisfied, therefore when an opportunity manifests he is likely to quit his job, thus negatively influencing on the company’s turnover. Maria and Mike’s levels of satisfaction will ensure that they perform up to the required standards, therefore, will improve the profitability of their respective companies. Darell is likely to adversely affect the profitability of the insurance company since he is disappointed about his employment. Moreover, his negative attitude can discourage his fellow colleagues, thus decreasing their productivity.

The Impact of Job Satisfaction on Organizations

Job satisfaction is a crucial element in the overall performance of an organization. It is likely to have an effect on various aspects of an organization which might either improve the organization’s overall productivity and profitability or reduce it (Gruneberg, 2014). Organizations, therefore, need to pay close attention to indicators that portray an employee’s satisfaction levels in order to monitor and improve their performance.
