Today’s politics has taken a dangerous turn as women have become overly assertive and daring in running for their country’s highest office. In recent years, American-based female figures have grabbed the public spotlight by campaigning for presidential nominations and even elections in the United States. Hillary Clinton and Carly Fiorina are two prime examples. This paper examines the role of these women in their party’s nominations, their campaign strategy, how they interact with various personalities and the broader public, and the criticisms they face in their pursuit for the US presidency.
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton was born in October 26, 1947 in Chicago, graduated from Wellesley College in 1963 and equally earned J.D from YALE law school in 1973. She was later married to Bill Clinton and became the First Lady of USA between 1993- 2001. Served as a US senator for New York from 2001- 2009. Became the 67th United States Secretary of States from 2009- 2013. Hillary in her environment and associates were politicians beginning with her husband thus she developed interest in serving in various country’s political positions. She advocated for gender equality and reforms in Healthcare. Running for president of US in 2008, Hillary won more delegates than the rest of previous female candidates. She made a second and final presidential run in 2016 as the flag bearer for the Democrats party (Clinton, 2014). Hillary became the first ever female in America’s political history to be nominated by major political party to run for president deputized by Senator Tim Kiane.
Clinton employed a major strategy of expanding their operations in the traditionally perceived Republican estates to create many paths to victory for example, selling many ads in Arizona, campaigning in New Hemisphere, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania among others (Tillman, 2016). She used a campaign slogan dubbed ’stronger together’ to show her supporters how strong they could be standing together. Clinton was unfairly treated by the media as quoted by Barrack Obama at a White House press briefing on December 16th 2016 since her private emails were leaked to the public in a move to demean her political integrity (Isaacs, 2016). The people should have taken Clinton seriously since her achievements and her rapport was overwhelming. She equally had a clear understanding of America’s progress and how to run a successful government with experience from the Whitehouse.
Carly Fiorina on the other hand is popularly known as a CEO of Hewlett Packard (HP), born in September 6, 1954. She unsuccessfully ran for United States Senate in 2010 and Republican presidential nomination in 2016. She was a vice-presidential running mate to Ted Cruz until he suspended his campaigns making Carly the shortest vice presidential candidate in the US political history. She campaigned on a strategy of creating more jobs to the citizens, ensuring everybody enjoyed their freedom and also promising the people to offer adequate security to all Americans. (Kriger & Zhovtobryukh, 2016) Fiorina blamed the network and the Republican National Committee for unfairly treating her thus making her dropout of the nomination race for the Republican Party ticket. It is clear that Carly had an understanding of her achievements and what she was going to bring to the people. She could have been given a chance to represent the Americans because her achievements are commendable and also her courage to tackle on men makes her suited for the top seat.
