The main factor that pulled me closer to John Steinbeck’s novel “Of Mice and Men” was to see if the two buddies involved would ultimately realize their goal of owning a farm. That is why Lennie and George traveled to California to look for work. However, things did not turn out as planned.
“Of Mice and Men” follows two pals who go out to find work in California’s fields. Their long-term goal is to buy a farm. George, on the other hand, was the one who had this idea all along. Lennie was concerned with petty things such as puppies, rabbits, mice, and women. Based on the quote ”I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you,” it is evident that Lennie and George were close friends and that they protected each other (Steinbeck 8). In the end, George shot Lennie for killing Curley’s wife when doing her hair.
Question 3
In reality, I enjoyed reading the book until its end. The author portrays many conflicts and acts of violence. For example, the problem with Lennie is that the ”trouble with mice makes him kill them” (Steinbeck 7). In other words, he does not have mercy on anything that he befriends. Moreover, I liked the way George said that his friend requires a dignified death. Ironically, he was the one who killed him alongside a river.
Question 4
Several things make ”Of Mice and Men” a book that the society should consider. ”I have never seen one guy take so much trouble for another one” (Steinbeck 12). Specifically, friends should stick together so that they can overcome problems. In addition, people should know that only working hard can make them achieve their dreams. Overall, individuals should respect one another’s beliefs and opinions to avoid conflicts that might end up causing deaths.
