My personal qualities include creativity, tenacity, passion of teamwork, and cultural sensitivity. The ability to come up with fresh, useful ideas is what is meant by the word creativity (Character Strengths: Creavity). I’ve noticed that increasingly frequently as a student studying automotive design, I strive to express myself artistically in ways that offer fresh viewpoints and creative solutions to several challenges in class. I use this strength in various aspects of my life, including when I have a lot of things to do and I’m pressed for time. Without sacrificing any of them, I will constantly look for ways to balance all the activities. My second strength is my perseverance, the spirit of perseverance as my second strength keeps me going. I do not give up easily. For instance, I had problems in Mathematics but I encouraged myself that I would manage it. Today, Mathematics is no more a problem to me and has particularly become my core strength in the design course. On the other hand, working in teams is my pleasure because it keeps me more creative through the knowledge sharing opportunities. Besides, as a student who has lived in and experienced three cultures - in the US, Korea, and China, cultural competence is also a personal strength that helps in teamwork, especially on managing different personalities.
In future, I would like to enhance my creativity through exploring new ideas and engaging in research in diverse fields of knowledge so that I can expand my imaginative and problem-solving skills. Possibly, this would call for more engagement in teamwork to share knowledge and skills and also to subscribe as a member of online research portals to learn by getting hands-on with my creativity. As for perseverance, the more I endure and get over challenges, the more I become resilient. My love for teamwork will be pivotal in my career and will thus strengthen along the way. Finally, the more I travel around the world and meet many people from different cultural backgrounds, the more I will be able to strengthen my cultural competence.
Above all, I value spirituality the most; it is the basis of my existence. I feel it is an obligation that as a man I pay allegiance to a higher form of power, that from whom I exist today. Among other things I value most are work-life balance and a good job. In the highly competitive global environment, being able to take on daily job responsibilities along engaging in other income generating and productive activities is critical (Baron). Consequently, my definition of a good job is that which allows me to develop expertise while still granting me the chance to live happily. Finally, needless to mention is money that everyone endeavors to acquire for their daily needs. It should come as a reward for good work.
Ideal Job and Workplace Analysis
In my first professional job, I would like to get to learn real-world application of my professional skills and to grow fast professionally in the shortest period possible. I would not definitely want to attempt larger projects especially in a leadership position because I believe it would be essential to learn a few more things before accomplishing such milestones. I would definitely not be happy to make sloppy decisions that will obviously impact negatively on my career.
Based on the foregoing deliberations, my ideal workplace should be an environment that encourages young skills to mature through teamwork and employee engagement. More specifically, I would prefer an organizational structure that eliminates all silos and allows me to freely interact with my leaders and fellow workers with decorum. In addition, an organizational culture that is innovative and visionary would positively influence my creativity in a way that I feel would be benefiting to me as well as my company. Having co-workers who are supportive and friendly in such an environment would be a boon for me.
Future Career Plans
Getting a job immediately upon graduating has always been my dream. I would not hesitate to grab any viable opportunity that comes my way after graduation. That said, it does not mean however, that I would not have something to do in case I do not get absorbed immediately after graduating. There are many other avenues I can utilize to keep myself busy and get hands-on with my skills. Finding an online forum that requires my creativity in combination with my design skills will probably be the first thing I would try to find. Also, I would keep on looking out for opportunities everywhere even as I strive to find other alternatives. If all ways seem closed, even charity is worth it. Working with charitable organizations would help build my résumé as I get the chance to give back to the society too. Meanwhile, I would do personal branding and networking to search for job opportunities (Jayson). I will particularly be aiming at working with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the likes of General Motors (GM), BMW and Ford. Working in such Fortune 500 firms is my top most career dream and growing in such firms to be one of the top leadership positions in my long-term plan as well. To realize this, I would probably require to first get a job with an OEM, get enough experience in 5 years and take on projects boldly thereafter.
