Every human being requires communication because it is a necessary aspect of our daily lives. Effective communicators are aware of the importance of delivering both the information intended for the audience and the meaning of that information. I also think that listening and empathy are essential qualities for an effective communicator. Prior to speaking, it’s crucial to listen carefully to understand what the audience wants. Additionally, in order to effectively communicate with an audience, it is critical to comprehend their feelings and thoughts (Fritz). Asking questions to elicit input from the audience is one of the areas that needs development. Also failure to maintain direct eye contact with the audience make them to be easily distracted.
Most people perceive me as a good orator and organized speaker, but I feel that am not organized enough when it comes to public speaking. I always have challenges organizing my content to fit the needs of a particular group of audience. Some of the changes which I feel it should be altered to promote my communication skills includes obtaining more knowledge of good organization skills and how to quickly understand the emotions and feeling of the audience in order to effectively communicate with them (Nielsen). Communicating with people from different genders and culture has been a challenge to me given that I do not understand fully how other cultures and genders tend to perceive different issues under discussion. I normally base my communication on my gender and culture, hence I fail to include these other groups. A plan on how to improve my communication skills first start with identification of my weakness and strengths and secondly looking for a communication consultant to provide me with a roadmap on how to maximize on my strengths as I work on my weaknesses.
