The Importance of Proper Attire in Court

The video shows a Pennsylvania judge making a comment about how people dressing improperly for court was becoming a bigger issue. The judge was correct to urge people not to wear pajamas to court and to object to their attire. As a result, the magisterial district judge took it a step further and posted a sign outside his courtroom in Catawissa Township, Columbia County, warning people not to wear the type of clothing in court and saying that it was inappropriate attire for a district court. The judge wished to put an end to the growing issue of individuals attending district tribunal hearings in inappropriate attire. (ROSE, 2009). Notably, the judge admits that there was no rule to govern the requirement and acknowledged that the sign was just an aide memoir. The judge also comments that people should think again before wearing the wear in court.

The Significance of Dressing Properly in Court

I feel that the judge is justified to requesting people to dress appropriately when attending court sessions. Just in the way people dress decently when going to church, the same way people should dress when attending court sessions (Steinberg, Goffen & Turner, 1989). A courtroom has a formal environment and wearing an appropriate clothing whether as an observer, witness, or a participant in a case, show that on has the necessary respect for the judge presiding over the case. There is every need to prepare well for court since the outcome or the verdict of the judge is solely dependent on the proper preparation and presentation (Court assistant, 2010). All the paperwork should be reviewed; the witnesses should be called so as to ensure that they appear in court on time. Further communication should be done with any other witness officer and the Crown prosecutor, and the witnesses should be made familiar with the courtroom and procedures (Ayuni, 2016). The moment all these factors are taken into consideration, it makes it easier for justice to be served under the rule of law.
