I concur that using the best teaching strategy is necessary when introducing a new idea. Mr. Hartland must comprehend cognitive development in order to properly impart knowledge to his students. Knowing the student’s stage of cognitive development can be important when deciding on Mr. Hartland’s teaching strategy. The teacher must first comprehend the underlying cognitive development in order to form a perception of the learner that will make the transmission of knowledge simpler (Hormann, 2012). However, utilizing teaching techniques like models and visual aids can greatly improve understanding while expanding the range of learning. As the post concludes, the best approach for Mr. Hartland can employ to ensure the student understand the subject is the conceptual understanding approach. It is an approach used by educators when delivering new complex concepts (Hormann, 2012). To teach a concept such as supply and demand, there is a need for the teacher to introduce real life situations and questions when teaching the students. Since the students are probably in their formal operational stage according to Piaget, providing a visual aid and familiar examples can significantly stimulate the cognitive development and help them understand better.

In conclusion, apart from providing relatable examples, Mr. Hartland can facilitate discussions in social, political and cultural avenues in the supply and demand. He needs to incorporate broader concepts rather than facts (Hormann, 2012). While I agree that Mr. Hartland “can narrow down and make the concepts more practical” situate these in a context that is meaningful and relevant to the learner. Concrete ”hands on” experiences can be brought into the conceptual understanding approach, therefore, magnify the outcomes of the lessons.
