The student used the dependent nursing intervention at the primary level during her trip. As it involves receiving instructions from a team leader on what they needed for survival as well as what they needed to properly assist the victims. When she learned that the situation on the ground was worse than expected during the secondary intervention stage, she used the autonomous nursing method. She had to do what she could, based on her knowledge and available resources, to help the victims. The interdependent nursing intervention was also applied at the tertiary level, where she was required to assemble a team of strangers to work together. For instance she relied on the services of a pharmacist to get the supplies she needed to provide care. (Arondid) These three interventions fall under the response phase of the disaster, as it involves putting in effort to provide an emergency response to the disaster with an aim of saving life, improving health conditions as well offering moral and psychological support to the victims.

In facilitating these interventions in response to the calamity, it’s important to get the good will of the government to readily provide the required necessities in handling the disaster. For example, facilitating transportation of medical teams in time and with adequate medical supplies will make it easier for the team to manage the disaster before it escalates. Partnering with local community members will be an asset, since as a foreigner with a completely different culture, you will need some assistance from the local people in understanding the victims as well as the magnitude of the situation so as to handle it in a better way. Finally, a collaboration of a good team of medical staff ranging from physicians, pharmacists, nutritionists to psychologists among others is required through the disaster intervention process.
