Advertisements are essential to any profitable business and they are a type of publicity campaign for the company’s ads. When human and robot sales agents are not involved, it is the product that speaks for itself. Advertisements do more than just chat about a product; they persuade potential customers to purchase it. This is why, when it comes to earnings, they are important for effective companies. The primary goal is to explain to the consumer why the product is superior to other similar products of the same kind but with a different name. According to Mentis (par 6, 7, 8), a different advertisement must be not only able to speak it all to its readers but also to be able to influence masses. The preposition must and should not be one that advertises other competitors, instead, it should be a unique one that only advertises itself (Mentis par 8). A chosen advertisement of Camel cigarettes is definitely an effective one. It draws potential buyers’ attention. It influences their choice since doctors are people whom it is easy to trust. As a result, a person is more likely to buy cigarettes of that particular brand and avoid buying its competitors’ products.
The advertisement on its packet presents a middle-aged man who is neatly dressed, having a well-kempt hair. He is putting on a white outfit that looks like a lab coat, like the ones that are used by the doctors in health centers. The man is holding a cigarette in his left hand while the right hand is holding the weight of his body above the table. On the top of the table, one can notice some books, and on its side, there is a package of cigarettes. The man seems to be smoking while at work in his office. From his outfit, the man is seemingly a doctor. Doctors are believed to be some of the best intellects in the world. What would an intellectual, especially a physician, person be doing with a cigarette in his hand and on his table? Under normal circumstances, these are doctors that tell people not to smoke. Then, in this picture, it is a doctor that has fallen victim to smoking. This in itself is unique to viewers. It gives the viewer the urge to read more on what this advertisement is talking about. Then the advertisement presents a statistical statement that “more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette.” This statement is what proves the suspicion on if truly this man is a doctor.
Doctors, being some of the known intellects, are considered to be of a higher caliber than others. This advertisement, therefore, implicates that since cigarettes are not good for human health because of health issues, like lung cancer, the one called Camel is an exemption. That is why many doctors and medical service providers are using it. Other consumers should believe in this particular cigarette because the doctors believe in it. The creators of the advertisement employ two logical fallacies in their attempt to convince the intended audience. The first logical fallacy is the misuse of statistics. The advert cites a survey that claims more doctors smoke Camel compared to other brands without mentioning the number of physicians that were surveyed (Kirszner and Stephen 144). The second is the bandwagon fallacy because even if it were true that more doctors smoke Camel than other brands, it does not make the product right (Kirszner and Stephen 147).
Other than just the advertisement itself, there are questions as to whether it is true that Camel is the number one brand of cigarettes for the doctors. As some argue that it is, others do not seem to agree with this statement. However, from this analysis, it is true that Camel is the number one cigarette brand for the doctors. This is because doctors are smoking it more than any other cigarette. Also, the survey that was conducted could not have been put on the brand’s advertisement if it were not true. A repeated nationwide survey, which is said to have been done, shows that more doctors indeed are smoking Camel than any other cigarette. One does not admit to what they are not sure about. If the survey was done countrywide, then it represents the right records.
The decision taken by most smoking doctors to go for the Camel cigarette has a reason behind it. The doctors are preferred as the experts in health. Among the doctors, there are significant research scientists who work all the time to ensure that everyone’s health is safe and sound. This is what they are called to do in their profession. Doctors have a caring, and sympathetic heart and their patients always come as the priority while at work. One of the doctors’ principles of ethics requires the doctors to put the lives of patients as the priority. Also, while getting to start treating patients and working on health cases, they had to sigh a set of rules and regulations among which is that no doctor should put the life of anyone at risk (Mentis para. 3). There are several proofs that Camel might have something in it that makes it more favorable than other cigarettes.
Doctors are most children’s role model. Meaning that whatever the doctors do, even if it is wrong, children will just follow that route. It would be so strange for a whole bunch of physicians to smoke Camel and leave a better option. This should be a sign that Camel cigarette is the safest cigarette, and that is why it is being used by many doctors. Because doctors themselves would always go for the best for their health, just like any other person, they would not dare to go for other options. This might be the reason why they opt to use Camel, hence, should be copied by other smokers.
Camel cigarettes, as some who use them have reported, when taken, have a cold mildness, as well as an excellent flavor, undoubtedly unmatched with any other cigarette brand. This is another reason why it is the doctors’ number one cigarette brand. People like beautiful, attractive, and tasty things. That is what Camel cigarettes are. If other cigarette brands had the same characteristics as Camel cigarettes, maybe they would be recommended by.
Camel cigarettes are said to not only have an excellent taste and flavor, but they also contain a blend of American and Turkish choice (Edwards para. 2). This gives its consumers the greatest smoking satisfaction. Camel’s quality is higher than the others. While most of the current cigarettes are smoked in the smoking zones so as not to affect the non-smokers, Camel can be smoked in public yet no one may realize that someone is smoking a tobacco cigarette. Also, it releases slow smoke, thus, more suitable for use. It is too much smoke that goes to the lungs during smoking that causes lung cancer to its consumers.
Despite the successes of Camel cigarettes, some loopholes need to be covered in this research. The survey that was done which indicates that most doctors use this product fails to tell the number of participants in the study. A study without mentioning the number of participants has very high chances of getting manipulated even if it is true. Also, doctors are referred to like some of the most intelligent individuals in the globe, but that does not mean that they will always be right. For instance, to some, smoking is wrong because it affects the health of the person. Just as its name suggests, smoking involves inhaling raw smoke. This does not happen even to vehicles. While the cars are fixed with exhaust fume to remove the smoke, other individuals are struggling to take in more of the smoke to their bodies. Smoking a cigarette is one thing that no senior with a right mind would recommend to their children. Why then do they use it?
In conclusion, therefore, having creative and unique advertisements is an important aspect. Such an ad, since it is creative, may or may not mislead the public. For the cigarette users, smoking what the doctors are smoking would be the most appropriate. Doctors are aware of the health hazards of smoking; hence, they would run for a brand that does not only have a sweet flavor and taste but also is better regarding health than the rest. That is why Camel advertisement may be considered as a successful, effective, and convincing one.
