In these conversations, the wife spends extravagantly in the belief that they will not experience financial difficulties the following year because the husband will begin a high-paying job. In contrast, the husband tries to consider what might happen to the large expenditure if something were to happen to him and kill or disable him, rendering him unemployed.

“Helmer. Nora! (Accords up to her and takes her playfully by the ear.)

The same little featherhead! Suppose, instantly, that I borrowed fifty weights today, and you used it all in the Christmas week, and later on New Year’s Eve a slate fell on my head and killed me.”

Also the husband is not fascinated by the fact that they are borrowing to spend

”Helmer.. There can be no freedom or attraction about a home life that depends on financing and debt. We two have kept bravely on the accurate road so far, and we will go on the same way for the short time longer that there need be any contest.”

This passage is happening in a house at the living room on the day before Christmas.

”A room furnished comfortably and tastefully, but not extravagantly. At the back, a door to the right leads to the entrance-hall, another to the left leads to Helmer’s study. Between the doors stands a piano.”

Nora. Hide the Christmas tree carefully, Helen. Be sure the children do not see it until this evening,

In this passage there are several contradictions

We find two people who are madly in love with one another that is Nora and Helmer.

Whereas Helmer dislikes Nora’s spending habits where she doesn’t save for future eventualities.

THE ISSUE UNCERTAINTY IN OUR DAY TO DAY LIVES

The issue of uncertainty manifests itself in this passage where we are told that everyone brought along there dearest possessions as they are not sure of what might come out of the journey.

”Those who had gold brought it along because they thought that it might be useful. Everyone brought his dearest possession because you must not leave what is dear to you when you go far away.”

This passage is taking place at a refugee camp in Europe where people are running away from a war ton country to places where they are welcomed and given refuge in camps manned by soldiers. These people have come from far away country to the centre of Europe to seek refuge.

”And when the soldiers shout to them to line up by fives, men on one side, women and children on the other, in a language they do not understand, they understand the blows of the weapons and line up by fives since they are ready for anything.”

In this passage, we find people who seem to all be moving towards the same direction but, do not know where they are going but they have no otherwise other than to go.

In this passage people find themselves in situations that they are not able to explain, some are not even able to remember the places they have been to before.
