In most industrialized and developing countries, mental diseases are serious public health issues. Such illnesses have a profound influence on the community, family, and patient. The doctor was able to point out some behavioral problems although the patient’s IQ was not necessarily related to the underlying psychiatric disorder. The first approach is dealing with the environmental stressors. If not well catered for, the stressors could worsen the condition which would increase the likelihood of more behavioral problems. The doctor, therefore, recommended a psychosocial treatment, which is a multidisciplinary team approach. Antony was to become part of the family member’s treatment because the cooperation between him and the family is essential. The family members were charged with the role of offering timely access to care, with aims of minimizing psychosocial stress.
The second strategy involves medication. When treating intellectual disability, doctors prescribe medication when the presence of an identifiable diagnosis is possible. In Antony’s case, the diagnosis was possible, and so treatment would be focused on the specific behavioral problems which will be controlled with the use of medication (Vissers, Gilissen & Veltman, 2016). The strategies for medication delivery involve:
Avoiding drug changes unless where necessary
Maintaining the medication regiment as easy as possible (which could mean extended-release pills or once-a-day pill)
Starting with small amounts of medications

According to the biological and neuropsychological theory, behavioral disorders resulting from intellectual disability can result from a variety of causes.
